▪Wilhelm Richard Wagner▪

Richard Wagner (1813-1883) was German composer, theatre director, polemicist and conductor. He was well known for his operas, or later known works known as 'music dramas.'

One of Wagner's most known works includes 'The Rise of the Valkyries,' yet he synthesised many incredible works that combined the poetic, visual, musical and dramatic arts together to create incredible works of art.

Although the works are incredible, Wagner's life was characterised by exile, turbulent love affairs and poverty, with many controversial writings on music, drama and politics.

We hope you take inspiration from his talent in the synthesis of incredible arts, and maybe not the latter!

▪Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde ▪

Oscar Wilde (1854-1900), an Irish poet and playwright, was one of the most popular playwrights in London in the 1890s. Notoriously known for his most popular work "The Importance of being Earnest," which was first performed in St George's Theatre, London in 1895.

However, trouble arose for Wilde when John Douglas, 9th Marquess of Queensberry, was angered by an ongoing homosexual relationship between his son , Alfred and Oscar Wilde.

John Douglas attempted to defame Oscar Wilde by using this against him, writing 'for Oscar Wilde, posing [Sodomite]' on a calling card at Oscar's club. This resulted in a court case between the two.

Things then escalated horribly, as John Douglas' lawyers posed Oscar Wilde as a vicious older man who 'seduced innocent young boys into a life of degenerate homosexuality.' Wilde dropped the case, yet Douglas won a counterclaim against Wilde for the expenses he has incurred on lawyers and private detectives in the case. Oscar Wilde was left bankrupt, his assets seized and sold at auction.

Wilde was then subsequently charged with gross indecency and sentenced to 2 years hard labour. His health and reputation ruined as a result of his sexuality, Oscar went into exile in France, passing away 30th November 1900 of meningitis.

~ Shakespeare 1623

It could be very well true that the devils we believe to be below us are in fact the individuals that give the world its cruel nature. Despite this, I think we all know that it is even more possible the devils are within ourselves, the hidden side to your imperfect being.
