This Wednesday 10th June! Three world class musicians, one local venue.

Don't miss the fantastic Luke Daniels trio, a dynamic group that is redefining the traditional melodeon sound. Fronted on the melodeon by the exceptionally talented Luke Daniels, a celebrated musician and composer, who has long been at the forefront of the British folk scene. Formerly the winner of the BBC Young Trad award, Luke has toured with Riverdance, Cara Dillon, De Dannan and Jethro Tull. He has performed all over the world from Glastonbury to the Philadelphia Folk Festival.

The band is a powerhouse of driving tunes set to a backdrop of deep, resonant basslines and agile, rhythmic riffs, adding a bold, unexpected dance beats to the ensemble. The line-up comprises some unique musicians from the folk world, each bringing their unique style and expertise to the group’s rich, layered sound.

Matt Tighe on fiddle, 2023 finalist BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician, and Luc McNally, 2019 finalist BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician, on guitar.

As part of we are sharing some stories of our volunteers.

“Hi, I’m Georgia and as well as performing on stage I am also a member of the Theatre Committee and the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

I joined the theatre two and a half years ago. I have always been passionate about theatre and my family have been involved in theatre life since I was born, so when I moved to Wigton joining felt like the perfect way to meet new people and continue something I am passionate about.

My most recent production role was as Jill in “Jill and the Beanstalk”, our annual family pantomime, where I was also the choreographer. I also spend a substantial amount of time in my safeguarding role where I am responsible for ensuring the theatre is a safe space for everyone and that we respond appropriately to any concerns that are raised. In this role I also work with Cumberland Council’s Child Employment and Entertainment Officer to ensure we are following legislation around children and young people in performances. With the support of the wider Safeguarding Team, I am also responsible for sourcing chaperones and child licenses for each production involving children.

⁠I have made so many amazing memories during my time volunteering and brilliant friendships that have been a great support!”

As we draw towards the end of we’re sharing a couple of stories of some of our volunteers.

Lewie has been involved in theatre life for a while now, with his role expanding from playing a variety of characters on stage to now helping out with our Middlers group and open mic nights.

“I’ve always had an interest in theatre and after doing a couple of shows I wanted to see what else the theatre had to offer and how it could help me develop my skills whilst also helping others. I have loved helping out with the Middlers group on Tuesday evenings, it’s been incredible fun to set up activities for them, and I have thoroughly enjoyed them all myself!”

“My favourite part of volunteering is that not only am I helping but I am also learning how a theatre actually runs and all the different paths available that don’t involve being on the stage.”
