Introducing AJE Goldsmith AJE Goldsmith
AJE Goldsmith is the creative partnership of Peggy and Anthony, working together in their studio in Kent they specialise in sculptural formations by use of a 1300-year-old Japanese technique known as ‘Mitsuro Hikime’.
Beeswax is an integral ingredient of the process, sourced from their family’s own bees; this gives them a natural and sustainable material to work with. This considered art is not to be rushed; the wax allows a fluidity to its formations that are not easily replicated in metal. Through the warming of wax in your hands, you are able to pull and stretch the mixture to create textures and striations akin to bark, flowing water or paintbrush strokes. These delicate constructions are then encapsulated in recycled precious metals by use of another time-honoured process called ‘Lost Wax Casting’.
AJE Goldsmith’s artistic vision draws inspiration from natural and organic forms and the desire to stretch the boundaries of expectations of the wearer. There is always something unexpected in this traditional process; through the use of sustainable materials and the exploration of ancient and modern techniques, their contemporary jewellery brings a sense of timelessness.
