Had an incredible day last Friday, a dream come true visiting for a guided tour from Adam, one of the people overseeing the renaissance of this historic recording Studio and community space in Atwater Village, California.


I took so many photos, which I will post later, but here is a walk through for a taste of how the place is being modernised and refurbished whilst retaining some of the features from back in the day ( 's mural, Ad Rock's tag, 's piano, the basketball hoop, Dilated Peoples' graffiti... I could go on.. I will go on 😀)

Check Your Head, Ill Communication were recorded there amongst many other artists who stepped through the doors. It's like a hip hop, lo-fi Abbey Road to me!

I got to play the piano. Could this be the spot where Biz Markie got the inspiration for his version of Benny and the Jets??
So much history and a great future looks set for it. Look out for the crowdfunder coming this month.

480 page book from Soul Jazz showing the artwork and histories of over 1000 reggae songs from 1969 through to the late 1970s.

A fantastic visual history of Jamaican music.

Book is in great condition, just a very slight laminate crease on the front cover.

MILES DAVIS - ON THE CORNER

I've been casually looking for this on and off for a few years now. Found this 1972 copy last week in a shop in Hay on Wye. More than I would normally pay (£40), but it is a wild album.

Panned by critics and jazz boffin purists on its release, it is properly groundbreaking experimental stuff, also a taste of funk and hip hop grooves to come. It still makes an impact now, 50+ years after release. Maybe not your dinner party jazz

Another work trip enlivened by a visit to a record store. My third trip to Poland and second to in Krakow.

So helpful staff, thanks for some great recommendations of Polish jazz from contemporary, experimental to funky, jazzy and hip hop infused.

Nice stuff that I have been listening to since I got back. Until my next visit ✌️🇵🇱

Visited at the market in Le Château-d'Oléron on holiday.

Great fun talking with Michel who guided me through some fantastic French music, just the sort of stuff I was looking for and things I didn't even know I needed, which is part of the fun of digging.

Could have spent all day there. Drop by if you are ever on Ile d'Oleron. He has a great selection of all genres.

Might see you again, if 's plan to revisit the island comes off!
