We are genuinely overwhelmed.
Since KENT ONLINE announced that THE ARCHES has been granted its Premises Licence, we’ve been blown away by the incredible support from so many of you. We’ve spent the last few hours reading every comment, and it’s clear just how much excitement there is about bringing this building back to life.
It’s been fantastic to read your memories of the old Labour Club, the Turkish restaurant, the Pigeon Club, the pool and darts nights, and the role this building has played in Whitstable over the years. We feel incredibly privileged to be writing the next chapter in its history.
As many of you have said, Whitstable deserves a dedicated venue where people can come together to enjoy Pool and Darts in a welcoming, friendly and safe environment. Whether you’re an experienced league player, someone who fancies a casual game with friends, or a young person looking to learn the sport, our aim is to create a club that everyone can be proud of.
For those who don’t know us, we’re Whitstable born and bred, and this isn’t just another business venture. This is something we’ve wanted to bring to our hometown for a long time. I’ve personally been negotiating to secure this venue for well over a year, and reaching this stage has taken an enormous amount of determination, patience and hard work.
Securing our Premises Licence has understandably taken a huge amount of our time and attention over recent months, but now that hurdle has been cleared, our focus is firmly on getting the venue ready to open.
We’ve noticed a few comments suggesting we’ll only be open for the summer. We can assure everyone that this is not a summer pop-up. THE ARCHES has been created with a long-term vision. We’re investing in a permanent venue that we hope will serve Whitstable for many years to come, supporting local leagues, hosting competitions, encouraging new players and becoming a real community hub.
A huge thank you also to everyone who has recognised that this building has held licensed premises for many years under previous occupiers. We’re delighted that, following the proper process, we’ve now secured our own licence and can move forward with confidence.
There have also been lots of questions about memberships and opening dates. We’re working flat out behind the scenes, and if everything goes to plan (🤞), we’re hoping to welcome our very first members by the end of the month.

Finally, thank you to every single person who has commented, shared our post, tagged friends or wished us well. The support from our hometown has meant more than we can put into words.
We honestly can’t wait to open the doors to THE ARCHES and welcome you all through them very soon.
