Watergaw Ceramics At Watergaw Ceramics I make a range of pottery and jewellery with my in glaze reduction lustre glazes

While at Art college I got interested in the movement and reflective colour found in water - something I still find fascinating today and it's still the inspiration for a lot of the work I do today. It helps that I get to see the sea every day from my kitchen window.

My essential gas kiln! Doesn’t look like much but without it there would be no in-glaze lustre glazes
The kiln has been on today and I’ve everything crossed 🤞 that it and I have created some lustre magic 🪄 Of course the kiln fairies always play their part 🧚🧚‍♂️🧚🏻‍♀️

Hopefully some of the pieces will be coming with me to Potfest Scotland at Scone Palace which will be open to the public from Friday 12th June

Might manage to squeeze in one more lustre firing 🫣

Fishes drying everywhere 🐟🤣 feels like I’m in a fishmongers!
🤞🤞the kiln gods are looking favourably on me and they might be ready for Potfest Scotland 🥰

A wee time lapse video of one of the many processes the clay goes through to turn it in to fish!

🤞🤞these will be ready for Potfest Scotland in just under two weeks time!
Potfest Scotland at Scone Palace open to the public 12th-14th June tickets available now!

Turning (or trimming) one of my Muin jars on a chuck.

Turning on a ready made chuck is essential for the shape I’m turning but it can help speed up the process too

I turn quite quickly (but the video is at double the speed!) and I love how it can transform the piece. Sometimes you’ve got to be careful you don’t get carried away watching the clay spirals come off and trim through the bottom 😢

I made some wee bowls at the weekend, they were thrown first, then they have to dry to leather hard and then they are turned to create a foot ring and trim away any excess!
Now they need to dry out until all the physical water in the clay has gone and next it’s a bisque fire, then they are glazed, glaze fired and finally they have a post firing reduction (PFR) in my gas kiln!
Each wee bowl has been handled at least 10 times by me!

🥳 window displays completed! It’s only taken me 3 weeks ……
I do love the challenge of presenting my work and Brian’s
When we first moved into the old Church I was only allowed clear glass in one of the windows and the rest was green! Certainly affected how the lustre looked!

Hope you have a lovely weekend 😊
