WADS Whitchurch, Hampshire's community theatre since 1958. Why not come along to the WADS club night? We meet every Tuesday evening at 8pm in Whitchurch Parish Hall.

We are always on the lookout for new talent - not just actors, but directors, producers, musicians, lighting technicians, wardrobe people, front-of-house, you name it. There is no pressure to join and you get the chance to meet members you may have seen on the stage and the behind-the-scenes workers without whom the group could not survive.

All the talk of apricocks and dewberries , as well as purple grapes, green figs and mulberries, in WADS’ production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is bound to make you peckish, so why not bring a picnic to the play, to be held outdoors this July .

This open-air Shakespeare production is to be staged at Bere Mill by kind permission of Rupert and Elizabeth Nabarro. The play will run for three nights, from16 to 18 July, and you can book tickets here on Facebook, or via the website (wadswhitchurch.org), phone (07903 194767) or email ([email protected]).

Be sure to bring picnic blankets or low-backed chairs (so everyone else can see) and, as there will be no bar at the event, your own drinks.

Back in July 2010, WADS staged an open-air production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was such fun that WADS is doing it again. But it won’t be the same as before, as the company is looking at a different and exciting new interpretation. It’ll have a 90s vibe; sort of Shakespeare meets the Spice Girls. A Midsummer Spice Dream, perhaps:

One turf shall serve as pillow for us both;
One heart, one bed, two bosoms and one troth.
Be a little bit wiser baby. Put it on, put it on,
'Cause tonight is the night when two become one.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be performed at Bere Mill by kind permission of Rupert and Elizabeth Nabarro, from 16 to 18 July 2026.

“Meet me in the palace wood, a mile without the town, by moonlight; there will we rehearse…
In the meantime I will draw a bill of properties, such as our play wants, what it really, REALLY wants.”

PS - if you’d like to get involved with props, front of house, music, etc. for this production, come along to a WADS’ club night, every Tuesday 3 at 8pm in Whitchurch Parish Hall, email us at [email protected], or telephone 07903 194767.
