BSA Whitby BSA Whitby (Benson Stage Academy) was founded in 1953 by Barbara Benson-Smith, MBE.

BSA Whitby is a well established private registered dance school, specialising in the teaching of ballet, tap, freestyle, jazz, lyrical, musical theatre & street dance. As a former pupil and teacher for Miss Benson-Smith, in 2010, Julia Howard-Trillo took the Academy into her very capable hands, taking over as Principal. BSA Whitby aims to provide an excellent tuition in dance for all, whether pup

ils are wishing to take their dancing to a professional level, or are simply wanting to dance for enjoyment. We will strive to help all pupils achieve the highest grades possible in their chosen dance subjects, hoping that some of them will enter full time Stage or Dance schools on completing their training with us. Ballet will form the basis of all dance taught in the Academy and is absolutely essential for the serious student hoping to make a career in the dance world. All professional dancers whether performing ballroom, jazz, tap or freestyle have received a good grounding in ballet, helping them achieve suppleness, posture and the grace of movement that is required. Introductions can be made to theatre companies on behalf of students seeking an audition for summer season work. We regularly participate in charitable events within the local community, and hold 2 fundraising shows a year raising money for our chosen charities.

After all your hard work preparing for and taking your dance exams, it’s time to relax, have fun, and enjoy a well-deserved break. πŸ’œ

You all looked amazing and danced beautifully. From Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary to Commercial, Street, Freestyle and Musical Theatre, every single one of you performed your hearts out. We are so proud of you all!

A huge thank you to our examiner, Maureen Slater, for making such a busy weekend so enjoyable for all our students. Your encouragement and professionalism were greatly appreciated.

A very special thank you to my wonderful teachers, Abbey, Josh and Mia. You have all done a fantastic job with your classes, and I couldn’t be prouder of each of you.

I've fallen a little behind on posting our Street Dance Stars of the Week, but that certainly doesn't mean they've gone unnoticed! A huge congratulations to all of our recent stars (Shae, Viv, Ivy, Hanna, Sophie, Erin, Harlow and Maisy) - every one of you has put in hard work, had a fantastic attitude and showed great determination. You should all be so proud of yourselves!

I also want to give a massive shout-out to every single dancer in both my Street Dance classes. The commitment, focus and effort you've all shown over the last few weeks as we've prepared for this weekend's exam session has been incredible. I can’t wait to receive the results, to see what you have all achieved.
