💚 Volunteer Opportunity: Branch Treasurer 💚

Dorset Samaritans at Weymouth is looking for a volunteer Treasurer to join our Leadership Team.

This is an important role helping to ensure our branch remains financially healthy and able to continue supporting people who need us. Our branch raises around £35,000 each year to keep our service running, and the Treasurer plays a key part in helping us manage those funds responsibly.

What does the role involve?
• Helping to oversee the branch's finances and budget
• Maintaining financial records and accounts
• Reporting on the branch's financial position to the Leadership Team
• Helping to ensure funds are managed in line with charity requirements and good practice
• Acting as a signatory for branch payments and transactions

What are we looking for?
• Someone who is organised and reliable
• Experience of budgeting, bookkeeping, accounting or financial administration would be helpful
• A team player who is happy to work alongside other volunteers

What you should know
• You do not need to be a current Samaritans listening volunteer to apply
• The role can be carried out largely from home, with attendance at occasional branch meetings
• Full training and ongoing support will be provided
• All volunteers are required to complete our application and induction process
• Nobody at our branch is paid for their role – we are entirely volunteer-run

Volunteering as Treasurer is a rewarding way to use your skills to support a local charity that has been part of the Weymouth community for over 70 years.

We can see clearly now… After a misty start to a glorious summer afternoon, our sold-out Chesil Rocks Picnic & Pimms brought together 100 people for a fantastic day of music, friendship, food and fundraising in the beautiful grounds of Higher Farmhouse, Langton Herring.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, performed, donated, served food and drinks, or supported us in any way. Special thanks to Samaritans, who joined us with their delicious cream teas, Big Bun Little Bun Catering, our bar team, and all of our talented local performers who made the day so special.
While we’re still finalising the figures, we’re delighted to say that we expect to have raised at least £3,000 for Samaritans.
When a community comes together, wonderful things can happen. Thank you, Langton Herring.
