⚖️ MEET THE CAST | JUDGE TURPIN

You’ve met the Demon Barber. Now meet the man who created him.

Stephen Fudge is Judge Turpin.

Behind the respectable exterior of one of London’s most powerful men lies something altogether darker.

Years ago, Judge Turpin used his position to destroy the life of a young barber named Benjamin Barker - sending him away and taking everything he loved.

Now Turpin lives comfortably with Barker’s daughter, Johanna, as his ward.

He believes the past is buried.

He has no idea that Benjamin Barker has come home. 🪒

Because while Sweeney Todd may be the name synonymous with bloodshed and murder, every monster has an origin, and this one begins with Judge Turpin.

Taking on the sinister Judge Turpin is Stephen Fudge, returning to the Wayfarers stage after more than two years, while also directing the production.

Powerful, obsessive and deeply corrupt, Turpin sits at the very heart of Sweeney’s thirst for revenge.

And eventually…

every man must answer for his sins. 🩸

🥧 MEET THE CAST | MRS LOVETT

Poppy Challenor is Mrs Lovett.

Business hasn’t exactly been booming on Fleet Street.

Mrs Lovett’s pie shop has seen better days, her customers are few, and her ingredients leave rather a lot to be desired…

Then an old acquaintance returns.

Suddenly, opportunity knocks.

Resourceful, quick-witted and with a remarkably flexible approach to both business and morality, Mrs Lovett is the darkly comic heart of C. G. Bond’s Sweeney Todd — and perhaps the only person capable of matching the Demon Barber step for step. 🪒🥧

Taking on the role is Poppy Challenor, bringing to life one of the story’s most infamous, outrageous and unforgettable characters.

We’re still more than two months away from opening night, rehearsals have only just begun — and Friday 6th November is already down to its FINAL 4 SEATS!

The response to Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has been incredible so far, and it looks like Fleet Street is going to be rather busy this November… 🪒

If Friday is the night you were planning to join us, this is your warning — don’t leave it any longer!

🎭🩸 AND SO IT BEGINS…

The inhabitants of Fleet Street have assembled - and rehearsals for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street are officially underway! 🪒

Last week saw our company come together for the first time as we began exploring C. G. Bond’s dark, gripping and surprisingly wickedly funny play.

There’s a long way to go before Fleet Street is ready to welcome an audience, but already the characters are beginning to emerge, relationships are forming and the first pieces of this dark tale of revenge, obsession, corruption and murder are falling into place.

And this is only rehearsal number one… 👀

Over the next ten weeks, we’ll be taking you along for the journey as our little theatre is gradually transformed into Victorian London — from rehearsals and character work to costumes, scenery, technical effects and, eventually… rather a lot of blood. 🩸

Remember - this is C. G. Bond’s original stage play, not the musical; the very play that helped inspire the Sweeney Todd story millions would later come to know.

The razor has been sharpened.

Now we begin. 🪒

What a wonderful evening celebrating our 75th year of The Wonderful Wayfarers. We showcased some of our favourite productions, enjoyed plenty of cake and ale (and a lot of other wonderful food!) enjoyed the company of a very special guest: one of our founding members and welcomed our future with the amazing Act One Drama Group
