Today, 1st July 2026, means that we have been in business for forty years. Previously as Morgan Kites, then as Sky Bums named after our Rokkaku fighting team " The Upper Severn Sky Bums".
During our 40 years we have been extremely prolific designers, designing all our own Kites, Banners, Windsocks, Line markers, Playsails, etc. I myself have designed over 30 plus kites (the kites and the designs on them). Paul has designed many more kites with his own artwork on. Both Paul and myself have also jointly designed many kites. We are still designing new ones, with many more on the drawing board ready to go.

We will be celebrating our 40th at The Shropshire Kite Festival, Cleobury Mortimer on 18th/19th July 2026.

We would like to thank you all for your support and help along the way :) :)

SKY BUMS UPDATE

This year is our 40th year in business. We set the business up (as Morgan Kites) on 26th June 1986 but started our first year on 1st July 1986. Over the last year it has come to our attention that rumours are going around that we are retiring. To put the record straight, we are not retiring.

In the beginning we got into kites as we enjoyed the hobby and could use the kites as canvasses for our art (both being from an art background). To survive we had to design and make the smaller kites for both children and adults (with not much time to do our specials). We are not retiring but gradually changing what we do. The smaller framed kites are very soul destroying, time consuming, repetitive and the shear volume is so immense we have decided to not make them any more. This we decided a couple of years ago but the death of Tony from Go Kites left us being the only remaining kite trader at festivals. So as not to let the public down we continued with the small stuff and found that since then we have been working harder than when we started and getting totally exhausted.
But it was, and still is, very satisfying to see so many children and newcomers that we have brought to the sport and their happy faces over the years.

The plan now is to still run the festivals at Cleobury and Cardigan, still do workshops as the children and adults get very inspired and really enjoy themselves. (The problem these days is that we get the children inspired and happy but the parents are too busy to take them to festivals. Having said that, the Northern festivals and the European festivals are very well attended). We will have a stall at a select few festivals and at others will be flying, displaying our art kites and selling them to people that come up to us on the field. Also we will still be taking orders and other projects.

We will be celebrating our 40th at the Shropshire Kite Festival, Cleobury Mortimer in July this year and we are sure at other festivals too. Looking forward to seeing you all in the new kite season ###x.
