This year we are extending over two weekends – enabling us to bring you many more authors, from political movers and shakers through to Costa Prize winners and on to world-famous historians and playwrights. We start with Kate Mosse (founder of the Orange Prize) and Heather Brooke (who uncovered the MPs’ expenses scandal); we take in Adam Nicolson and the 2012 Costa Prize winner Andrew Miller; we feature Matthew Parris, Claire Tomalin, Michael Frayn and Jonathan Dimbleby; and we finish with Antonia Fraser. And there’s plenty more in our rich menu of fiction, history, biography and current affairs.

We are going wider. Having the extra day means that we can feature gardens and wild flowers (Sarah Raven), cookery in action (Three Hungry Boys), music (Charles Hazlewood), sculpture (Alexander Sturgis) and crime. What’s more, this year’s Festival-goers will be able to view the winning entries in the newly launched Wells Art Contemporary open competition, curated by 45 Park Lane in the Wells Museum.
