I want to share an experience with permission from a beautiful soul I met recently….
I booked myself a spontaneous break away for the new year and found myself unexpectedly in the company of two wonderfully interesting woman that would unknowingly be giving me a practise run for the choir.
Both deeply tapped into their creative side, entrepreneurs in their field, here to make a difference in the world. 🤍
One lady in particular I’ll refer to as Hope to protect her anonymity, shared that she too used to sing, dance and perform, she was deeply committed as a child but was made to give it all up for her A Levels.
The pull towards singing and performing has never left her and although Hope has often taken part in Shows and performances she’s never been able to tap into the confidence she had as a child.
She shared her fears with me, the perfectionism tendencies, the comparison, the voices of those that have ridiculed her that are still alive in her mind and running the show….running her entire life in-fact.
I understood on a profound level as those very same voices have haunted me too. I told her about my own unfolding journey toward healing my relationship with my own inner voice, that voice often misleads us, fills us with fear, talks us out of the very things that bring us joy and light us up. That voice prevents us from showing up as our fullest potential, leaving us full of regrets and disappointments.
It’s a battle I’m certain many of us have dealt with in some way.
This is why The Wayland Songbirds is vastly different to most choirs.
A very important aspect of our focus as a choir will be to fully allow, have compassion for and make friends with the inner voice and all those pain points that keep us small, nervous, shy and quiet. They are so valid and deserving of our love and attention. 🤍
A strong, clear, powerful voice can only flow from a vessel that knows its truth and power, is relaxed and confident.
There can be no shame around any of these topics, we are all human, all doing our best. We are all equals and if we all make it our intention to lift and gently encourage ourselves and each other then who knows what we can become!
See you all soon fellow Songbirds
