I've been helping an older student develop his fluidity and relaxation/control, as it's holding him back.

This lesson centres on the pop punk track 'Indecisive' out of Rockschool grade 2, specifically the ending line.

I basically use down, tap and different free strokes to create a flowing motion and sound (as we all do), and show people how to develop this beat layer by layer, keeping each technique together as it becomes more involved.

It's a decent explanation I guess!

This was a South African festival I played called with a band called City Bowl Mizers, who were the reason I ended up in London. The festival is still going strong and is SA’s longest running one I believe.
Anyway, this video is like a time capsule as it was taken when phone cameras weren’t such a thing. This band was always about fun and were always a ball of energy onstage. I don’t think I’ve played with a bunch of dudes so able to effortlessly start a party anywhere and make every gig an occasion. They brought out a lot of that in me and I miss it! This is now 15 years ago but the second song in particular still sounds great now. Reunion?
