OPEN ARMS IS NOW LIVE ON YOUTUBE! 🤯

The official Open Arms music video by Northern Daughters is now live on YouTube.

Open Arms is an original song and city-wide community project developed by ISG in partnership with Sunderland, UK, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, as part of the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend wraparound programme.

Performed by Northern Daughters, our six-piece girl band aged 14 to 17 from Inspire Stage School, this is their first ever music video. These young women have been extraordinary. They've shown professionalism, resilience and talent well beyond their years, and their warmth and energy are a big part of why this project connected with so many people across Sunderland. The video features Sunderland landmarks, local communities and the Keel Square performance with over 2,000 people on 23 May.

The impact so far:

• Nearly 6,000 people reached in person through our community outreach programme, spanning schools, nursing homes, businesses and community groups
• 2,000+ students engaged across 13 schools
• 1.6 million TikTok views

The video had its world premiere at City Hall on Wednesday 14th October, with over 200 guests. Its message is simple:

"Come on in, you're welcome here."

Please watch it, share it and sing along: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zb5UYAwKf9w

This is what happens when a city comes together ❤️

Open Arms was created to tell Sunderland’s story, but over eight weeks, it became a story involving thousands of people across the city.

From classrooms and community organisations to nursing homes and businesses, Northern Daughters took the project directly into the community, sharing an original Sunderland anthem built around the cities heritage, resilience, identity and sense of belonging.

It all led to one incredible moment at Keel Square, where over 2,000 people came together to be part of the official Open Arms music video 🙌

And very soon, we get to see the finished result.

OPEN ARMS: THE PREMIERE 🎶

What started as an idea to bring Sunderland together has become something bigger than we ever imagined.

On Wednesday 14th October, we’ll head to Sunderland City Hall for the premiere of the official Open Arms music video, created by ISG and led by Sunderland’s very own Northern Daughters.

Developed in partnership with Sunderland, UK and funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund as part of the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend wraparound programme, Open Arms was created as a celebration of Sunderland, its shipbuilding heritage, its graft, its resilience and, most importantly, its people.

Over eight weeks, the project reached across the city:

🎓 13 schools and educational settings visited
🎤 2,000+ students took part in live workshops
🤝 Nearly 6,000 people engaged in person
🙌 2,000 people came together at Keel Square for an unforgettable flash mob
📱 1.6 MILLION+ views generated across 33 dedicated TikTok posts

At the heart of it all were Northern Daughters, six young women from Sunderland using music to champion confidence, identity, mental health and belonging.

Now, we get to see it all come together.

The evening will feature the story and impact behind Open Arms, guest speakers, an exclusive behind-the-scenes film, the world premiere of the official music video and a live performance from Northern Daughters to close the night.

A Sunderland anthem. A city-wide project. Thousands of people involved.

And one simple message at the heart of it all:

“Come on in, you’re welcome here.”

We can’t wait! 🧡🖤
