The Live & Local Rural and Community Touring Network supports a network of volunteer promoters across Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire who bring rural communities together to enjoy high-quality, entertaining and a

ffordable professional live theatre, music, dance, family shows and film screenings from the best in national and international touring companies and performers at their local village hall, community centre, church, school or pub. The shows are chosen by the local community, for their local community.

That’s a wrap on the 7th Big Picture Film Festival 2026!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, sponsored and contributed to making the festival such a success! It was a delight seeing audiences and guests show up for our programme and engaging with the festival so enthusiastically! We look forward to building on this momentum once again and welcoming audiences back next year! It’s the final day of Big Picture Film Festival - and we’re going out with a bang!

We’re kicking things off at The White Swan Hotel, much to the delight of our feathered festival mascots, Atuel and Miami.

12pm | Festival Double-Bill
For the first time ever, join us for a special double-bill of Behind The Severed Wing and Kes, exploring birds as symbols of freedom, escape and belonging.

4pm | Blue Jean + Post-Show Discussion
We’re delighted to be joined by our friends at Feminist Film Club for a special screening of Blue Jean - a powerful drama exploring identity, visibility and belonging during the Section 28 era - followed by a post-show discussion.

5pm | Atonement at Marton Memorial Hall, Rugby
Heading outside Stratford-upon-Avon, this year’s fringe venue, Marton Memorial Hall in Rugby, will be screening Atonement - a powerful feature following a teenage girl whose misguided accusation devastates the lives of her sister and her lover, with repercussions spanning decades against the backdrop of World War II.

7:30pm | Power Station + Panel Discussion
We’re closing this year’s festival back at Rother Street Arts House with one of our most highly anticipated events. In partnership with Net Zero Stratford and sponsored by Octopus Energy, don’t miss Power Station, followed by a panel discussion featuring industry experts.

A visually stunning Sudanese coming-of-age drama, presented in partnership with Stratford Welcome Here.

Day 2 of Big Picture Film Festival is here and today we're planting our feet at Rother Street Arts House, Stratford-upon-Avon.

We're starting the day with Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom, a heartwarming Bhutanese drama that celebrates education, community and life in harmony with nature. Start time 1:30pm.

Then, at 4pm we're switching gears with the cult cinema classic Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's acclaimed graphic novels, this unmissable film fuses romance, comedy and music with virtuosic visuals inspired by comic book and video games.

Finally, come on down at 6:30pm, when we'll be joined by some special guests for the first panel discussion of the year, taking place after a screening of The Librarians, a powerful documentary by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Kim A. Snyder. The film follows librarians in Texas and Florida caught in the crossfire of aggressive book-banning campaigns. Come along for the film and stay for the conversation!

It’s time! The 7th Big Picture Film Festival opens today.

And we’re kicking things off in style on Thursday 3 September with a live piano score screening of The Hands of Orlac, a silent horror classic accompanied by pianist Jonny Best, co-founder of Northern Silents. Based on the French science fiction novel ‘Les Mains d'Orlac’ by Maurice Renard, The Hands of Orlac tells the story of a pianist who loses both hands in an accident, only to discover his new hands once belonged to a murderer! This is one of the defining films of early cinematic horror, a chilling tale of obsession, identity and terror. Don’t miss this immersive musical event where Jonny and this masterful silent film will become one!

Big Picture FIlm Festival 2026 Special Fringe Screening: Atonement

We’re thrilled to announce a special fringe screening of Atonement as part of this year’s Big Picture Film Festival.

Based on Ian McEwan’s acclaimed novel, this powerful drama follows a teenage girl whose misguided accusation devastates the lives of her sister and her lover, with repercussions spanning decades against the backdrop of World War II.

Announcing the Big Picture Film Festival Short Film Competition Winners!

This year’s Popcorn & Perspectives theme brought us a fantastic and wonderfully diverse range of short films. Our team had the privilege of watching so many brilliant entries and we’re delighted to announce this year’s winners:

1st Prize – Clause & Effect directed by Taylor Simpson
A short drama following three half-siblings reunited by their father’s death and the reading of his will.

2nd Prize – The Hero directed by Oliver Woolridge
At the end of the Great War, a soldier burdened with informing a mother of her son’s death faces an impossible decision… tell her a noble lie, or the horrible truth?

3rd Prize – We Dream in Colour directed by Kane Wilson
In a future where humanity can no longer sleep, a young woman escapes into artificial dreams, where her growing bond with an AI companion begins to unravel her sense of reality.

A huge thank you to everyone who submitted a film this year. We’ve loved discovering new filmmakers and hearing the different perspectives brought to life through your work.
