Some places quietly become part of our daily lives

Every morning on my walk to work, I cross the bridge at Compton Verney and pause to admire the view across the lake. The landscape changes with the seasons: fresh greens of spring, warm summer reflections, rich autumn colours, and the quiet beauty of winter. Yet somehow it always remains inspiring.

This view has stayed with me for so long that I finally decided to paint it. I'm delighted to share the first painting in what I hope will become a series inspired by the beautiful Compton Verney landscape.

I'm especially thrilled that this painting was selected by the judges of the Pensychnant Open Call and will be exhibited at the Pensychnant Conservation Centre in North Wales from 5 July until the end of September. 😍

It's wonderful to know that a place which brings me joy every day will now be shared with others through my art.

What a wonderful day at the Great Paint Off in Broadway yesterday! 🎨

Spent the day painting on the streets of the beautiful Broadway village, surrounded by fellow artists, old friends, new friends, and lots of lovely people.

I came fully prepared for rain, but thankfully the weather held out for us all. My original plan was to head out towards the fields to paint a tree and shed just outside the village. However, on the way there I spotted the most charming little house covered in greenery and simply couldn't resist stopping to paint it instead. 🌿🏡

One of the highlights of the day was the number of people who stopped by to chat and share kind comments about my work. I was genuinely surprised and honoured. Painting in busy public spaces has always felt a little intimidating, but thanks to all those encouraging conversations, I think that fear is finally starting to fade. 😊
The atmosphere throughout the day was fantastic. I was lucky to catch up with friends from both the art world and everyday life, some of whom I never expected to see there at all! To be honest, I probably spent more time chatting than painting yesterday... 😅🤦🏼‍♀️

It was great to see fellow artists , (I absolutely loved the painting you created on the day!), as well as meeting new artist friends and .mo
I was also incredibly impressed by the dedication of artists who travelled from places like Bournemouth, Southport and London just to take part. 👏🏼😍

A huge thank you to my friends who took time out of their busy lives to come and support me, it meant so much

And finally, a special thank you to my husband , who designed and built an amazing custom plein-air box for me. It has a sliding lid that allows me to protect my painting from sudden rain showers and sturdy handles that make transporting wet canvases much easier. It was an absolute lifesaver yesterday and helped me so much throughout the day. ❤️

I'll definitely be back next year. It's such a fun event and a wonderful opportunity to meet artists from all corners of the UK. ☺️

Tonight, despite a lack of sleep and a working day ahead, I felt an overwhelming urge to paint my peonies while they are still in full bloom. Their beauty is so fleeting and I again wanted to capture this moment before it's too late.

This is my second attempt at painting them. Last Friday, I painted them outdoors in oils while they were still growing in the garden. After days of heavy rain, I brought them inside and placed them in a vase, hoping to prolong their beauty.

Seeing them there tonight, glowing softly in the light, I felt compelled to paint them again—this time in soft pastel. A different medium, a different setting, but the same desire: to catch a fleeting moment before nature moves on.

Sometimes you can't wait for the perfect time, you have to do what your soul tells you to do...

This Sunday 7 June, I'll be taking part in the Great Broadway Paint-Off for the very first time. 🎨😱😁

Around 80 artists from across the UK will gather in and around Broadway to paint its streets, buildings and landscapes, with judges selecting their favourite works at the end of the day.

To be honest, I'm feeling a little nervous.😬☺️

Painting outdoors is something I love, but painting with lots of people watching and a limited amount of time adds a completely different challenge. There is nowhere to hide (even though I'm planning to go to the footpath towards the Tower 😉), no opportunity to endlessly rework a painting, and no control over changing light, weather or interruptions.

But perhaps that's exactly why I wanted to do it - to challenge myself... again... 😅

For me, plein-air painting has always been about responding to what is in front of me in the moment and translating the beauty of nature onto canvas as honestly as I can. This event feels like an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, trust the process, and continue growing as an artist.

Most of all, I'm looking forward to seeing familiar artist friends, meeting new people, and spending a day doing what I love.

If you're visiting Broadway on Sunday, keep an eye out for me and come and say hello.

Wish me steady hands, calm nerves and good painting weather! 🤞🏼🤗

A couple of days ago, I came home from work and discovered that my husband had upgraded my little plein-air easel with several thoughtful improvements! 😍

Well... instead of having dinner and relaxing, I took the easel straight into the garden to give it a proper test.

My peonies were in full bloom. They are my favourite flowers and it felt like it was one of those fleeting subjects that remind us how quickly beauty changes. I knew they wouldn't stay at their peak for long, and suddenly painting them felt less like a choice and more like a deadline.

I planned to spend an hour on a quick oil study. But as often happens when I'm painting from life, time disappeared. The next thing I noticed was that the colours were becoming difficult to distinguish and the garden was sinking into darkness. It was already 10pm.

The painting isn't about perfect peonies. It's about preserving a moment that would never exist again in exactly the same way.
This is one of the reasons I love plein-air painting. It teaches you to observe carefully and appreciate the beauty that exists right now, before it changes.

I'm very glad I chose the easel, the peonies and the fading evening light over an easy evening indoors.

Would you do the same? 😉

p.s. I'm not doing it very often and yes, I suffered next day at work (was very sleepy after the long painting hours the night before).

My short camping trip to Holkham and a much-needed reset in nature 💚💙

I packed my sketchbook, found a quiet spot, and spent some time capturing the character of this beautiful tree (my favourite tree in Holkham, because I come back to this spot every time when we're here with my family). Plein-air sketching has always been one of my favourite ways to experience a place. It's slowing down enough to really notice the textures, shapes, light, and atmosphere around me.

Sometimes the best creative recharge comes from stepping away from the everyday hustle and spending time outdoors.

Saturday walk and a bit of plein-air painting at Gog Magog Hills near Cambridge ☺️

I felt a little stiff going into it . What I thought would be a quick 10-minute sketch turned into an hour-long exercise. A good reminder that loosening up takes practice.

Still, I’m really glad I gave it a go and spent time painting from life 🎨🥳

The last 10 days have been a gentle shift after the exhibition, I'm back to my other world at the restaurant, surrounded by ever-changing landscapes and beautiful art that keeps inspiring me in quiet ways.
In between, a little escape to the Somerset seaside with my family was just what I needed to pause and breathe. Grateful for the balance 🌿🌊

Still catching my breath after the exhibition and what an incredible experience it’s been!
Although I’m a few days late posting (I was straight back into my other job), I didn’t want to miss the chance to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along, supported me, and shared such kind encouragement.

The final few days brought even more excitement, with 4 additional original paintings finding new homes, which truly means the world to me. To everyone who bought a piece - thank you for connecting with my work in such a meaningful way! ❤️🤗 It genuinely inspires me to keep painting and creating more.

I was also so pleased to have quite a few of you sign up for my newsletter, now I just need to make sure I keep up with it! 😄

Feeling very grateful and motivated right now. On to the next chapter…

As our Nature’s Force exhibition at Hanbury Hall is coming to a close, I just wanted to share a little update and a heartfelt thank you ❤️
The exhibition will still be open for just a couple more days, with everything coming down on the afternoon of 15th April. I’ll be at Hanbury Hall tomorrow (Tuesday 14th) and on the morning of Wednesday 15th before we begin closing down.

It’s been such a rewarding experience over the past days, filled with inspiring conversations, kind words, and so much positive feedback about my work. I’ve loved meeting so many lovely people, and sharing the inspiration,  process and the stories behind my paintings. It truly means a lot. I’m also so grateful to everyone who signed up for my newsletter. I’m excited to stay in touch and share more with you soon!

I’m very happy to say that two more paintings have found their new homes: “Summer Reading” and “Sweetie.”

“Sweetie” in particular is heading somewhere very special, it's been bought to celebrate the moment of finally paying off a mortgage. What a meaningful way to mark such a huge life milestone!

If you’ve been thinking of visiting and seeing the artworks in person, I would absolutely love to see you and have a chat before it all wraps up. And if there’s a piece you’re interested in but can’t make it in time, please feel free to message me directly.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported me, it truly means the world to me!
