The Long Fin Electric Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi) is a stunning, high-fashion variant of the classic German Blue Ram. It combines intense, neon-blue coloration with elongated, flowing finnage, making it a true showstopper in a peaceful community tank.

Key Characteristics

Appearance: They boast a brilliant, metallic "electric blue" body that seems to glow under aquarium lighting. The "Long Fin" (or Hi-Fin) trait gives them an elegant, wispy silhouette as they swim.

Size: They typically reach about 5 to 7 cm in length.

Temperament: Generally peaceful for a cichlid, though they can become territorial during spawning. They are best kept in pairs.

Quick Care Guide

Feature Requirement
Water Temperature 26°C to 30°C (They prefer it quite warm)
pH Level 5.0 – 7.0 (Soft, acidic water is best)
Diet Omnivorous; thrives on high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen bloodworms.
Tank Size Minimum 75 liters for a pair.
Important Note on Difficulty

While they are undeniably beautiful, Electric Blue Rams are considered intermediate-level fish. They are highly sensitive to nitrate levels and fluctuations in water chemistry. To keep those long fins looking pristine and their colors vibrant, they require a well-established tank with frequent water changes and pristine filtration.

Known as a "true freshwater" puffer, it is popular among advanced aquarists as a "wet pet" due to its ability to interact with its keeper, but it requires substantial care, a very large tank, and specialized feeding to handle its fast growth and powerful, ever-growing beak.

Scientific Name: Tetraodon lineatus
Common Names: Fahaka Puffer, Nile Puffer, Lined Puffer, Banded Puffer
Lifespan: Can live for 10-20 years, making them a long-term commitment.
Maximum Size: They grow very fast, often reaching 17–18 inches (40-45 cm) in length.
Appearance: They have a stocky body with bright horizontal or vertical stripes (depending on age) ranging in color from tan to light brown, with a white underbelly. They possess bright, expressive eyes.
Temperament: Extremely territorial and aggressive. Generally, they must be kept as a solitary specimen.

Meet the Fahaka Pufferfish — the tank predator with a personality ...
Fahaka puffers (Tetraodon lineatus) are highly intelligent, personable freshwater fish from Africa that can grow up to 18 inches, often acting like aquatic puppies by recognizing their owners. They are notorious, solitary predators with beak-like teeth that grow continuously, requiring a diet of hard-shelled prey like snails and clams to wear them down.
