Weโre almost packed away and tidied up... and thatโs 20 years of Glastonferry (Part 1 of 2) done!
What an incredible day Saturday was.
Itโs hard to believe that over 20 years ago one conversation led to what has become our community music festival.
Back in late 2005, our friend Ken Stoll, who was part of the Harley Owners Club (HOC), asked if weโd be interested in hosting their 10th anniversary Harley rally at The Ferry Tavern. At first, I thought he meant motorbikes racing around, so I wasn't too keen! He quickly explained that it would actually be a bike show, with live music throughout the day and some catering.
So, on Saturday 1st July 2006, we held our very first event.
We borrowed a PA system from someone local (we actually had to ask what a PA system was!), powered it with an extension lead out of our bedroom window, built a stage from scaffolding covered with a tarpaulin, and Jade cooked on a B&Q barbecue. We filled a paddling pool with ice, water and cans of Boddingtons (we didn't sell a single can!), hired one outside toilet and hoped for the best.
There was no security, no tickets and no real idea what we were doing... but somehow we pulled off something special.
We held one more bike show in 2007, and in 2008 the name Glastonferry was born. Then, in September 2009, we introduced tribute bands for the first time, with The Clone Roses headlining. Their tour DJ at the time, Dave Sweetmore, warmed up the crowd that day and has been the voice and host of Glastonferry ever since.
Over the years we've been lucky enough to welcome many of the UK's best tribute acts, as well as some fantastic original artists before they hit the big time, including The Lottery Winners (September 2013) and The K's (July 2014).
We're incredibly proud of what Glastonferry has become and even more grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years. Without you, there simply wouldn't be a Glastonferry.
Saturday genuinely felt like a celebration. Every artist was outstanding, and every member of the teamโfrom the bar staff and sound engineers to security, caterers, cleaners and everyone working behind the scenesโplayed their part in making it such a fantastic day.
So, thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey over the last 20 years.
But we're not finished yet...
September is Part 2 of our 20th Anniversary celebrations!
