These close up pictures of a piece that we are going to share with you in later in the week. This piece was stitched by Pat, there is so much details on the piece that we are going to try to break it down so that you don't miss anything.
Today we are taking a closer look at the wisteria trunk where you can see the detail added to create the organic look, how multiple threads are twisted together then near the base of the trunk stranded cottons are brought in with French knots added and the stranded cottons are used to add extra depth to the area

These close up pictures of a piece that we are going to share with you in later in the week. This piece was stitched by Pat, there is so much details on the piece that we are going to try to break it down so that you don't miss anything This part of the design are one of the small trees and some wisteria which has been created using coloured purls stitched into loops with the branches having a twisted look with a variety of threads mainly 3ply twists in 3-4 colours with j*p mixed in, with sheer fabric leaves to give extra depth. The smaller tree has a trunk created with J*p with some small flowers added with sequins secures with stranded cotton to give the impression of small flowers.

Student Spotlight
Over this week we are going to share a piece of work stitched by Olive in one of our day classes. This piece is a pair of trees and today we are focusing on the trunks of the trees both done differently but both just as effective. The first in gold is a more delicate look, created with J*p which has been couched down with terracotta translucent thread so that it is noticeable, the trunk curves into a organic way ending with the flowers and buds. The second trunk has a more gnarly and more dense appearance using a variety of copper threads and wires twisted around each other and also some twisted into tight circles to create the illusion of knots in the wood. I'm sure you will agree that they have been executed beautifully and look fabulous. We will show you the full picture in our next post.

Student Spotlight

Over this week we are going to share a piece of work stitched by Olive in one of our day classes. This piece is a pair of trees and today we are going to focus on the blossom that has been added to the trees to give a pop of colour. Created by using sheer fabric and beads as well as some French knots. For the other tree green and browns in stranded cotton and coloured purls have been used to add these star shaped design. I'm sure you will agree that they have been executed beautifully and look fabulous.

Step into a world of shimmering threads, traditional techniques, and creative escape with our fortnightly Goldwork Embroidery Classes at Golden Hinde, Warrington.
Whether you're completely new to goldwork or looking to develop your embroidery skills, these welcoming sessions offer the perfect opportunity to learn, create, and connect with fellow stitchers in a relaxed and inspiring studio environment. Classes are designed for all abilities and are taught by expert tutor Sarah Rakestraw, helping students build skills and confidence at their own pace.
• Learn authentic goldwork embroidery techniques
• Build confidence with expert guidance
• Create beautiful, embroidered pieces at your own pace
• Meet like-minded embroidery enthusiasts and join a welcoming creative community
• Enjoy a calm, supportive atmosphere with plenty of inspiration
Held every fortnight on Mondays and Tuesdays (10am–4pm), these sessions give you time to practise between classes while steadily developing your embroidery journey.
We don't only teach Goldwork, we teach a variety of embroidery styles from Blackwork to silk shading as Goldwork works in harmony with these techniques so why not join us.
