South of England Championship 12th July 2025

What a wonderful day was had by all on Saturday 12th July at my annual Wareham Town Criers' competition and South of England Championship, held down on Wareham Quay, where 11 Town Criers from all over the UK took part.

Thank you to all that took part and to all those involved and who helped out behind the scenes at this event - Our 17th year- not counting Covid!

Thanks to Wareham Town Council staff for their help and to the Wareham Carnival team who dealt with the gazebos. To The Club for letting us have our lovely lunch there.
Thanks to Jean Dixon and Michelle Hall for their amazing photography, and to the 2 judges for Clarity, Volume, Inflection and Diction who were Cllr Marian Cotton and Team Rector Neil Kelly.
The Wareham Town Mayor, Cllr Zoe Gover added gravitas to the occasion and chose the Best Dressed Crier.
Also thanks to my friend Kate Brailsford for her expert scoring, and my daughter Michelle for her tea making and refreshment skills.
A successful day and here’s to 2026 - see you all in glorious Wareham same time next year!
The winners were:

1st Winner: John Collingwood of Bridport
2nd: Paul Gough of Nuneaton & Bedworth
3rd: Andrew Fleming of Swanage
Best dressed crier: Mark Northway of Cromer
Best Content cry having the theme of Court Leet was judged by the Bailiff Floss Gould and ale taster Steve Welsh of the Wareham Court Leet, and the winner was: Mark Northway of Cromer
