Hello and welcome once again to Wallasey Arts Society's fb page and this mornings group "art" exercise.
Today's model was Maureen, one of our members. The pre-break light was quite intense and her dress had bright highlights and deep shadows. As the clouds scudded across the sun the colours vibrated between blue and deep purple. Post refreshment break the light was more even, lower contrast and colour more constant.
Thank you Maureen, we hope you enjoy our pictures.
We also provided a still life option for this session in the form of a relatively famous Sci-Fi object.

Some interesting pieces from American TV about David Hockney over his career.

"If you are not playful you are not alive."
David Hockney

We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of David Hockney OM CH RA.

David was elected to the Royal Academy in 1985, and his art has become closely associated with the institution, following memorable exhibitions of his work in the RA's galleries.

It has been a great privilege for the Royal Academy to bring his artistic vision to the public, and he will be hugely missed by his fellow Academicians, RA staff and our audiences who adored his art.

On Wednesday, besides the still life, one of our newest members, Jacquie, took to the modelling seat for the first time.
Many thanks to her for volunteering at short notice and we hope that you find our pictures interesting and enjoyable.
To all our members, we know that you like and enjoy coming along most weeks and doing what you do, but we need to find out how we can help you to explore and advance with materials and methods.
Please let us know either at the meetings or by comment on this page.

Wednesday's intended meeting was overtaken by a scary weather forecast and the temporary closure of the on site cafe.
We took this as a sign, and offered our artists the opportunity to study some refreshments at length with a side order of portraiture for their choosing.
So, refreshments first and portraiture to follow!

The weather forecast for Wednesday morning includes the possibility of thunder & lightening and an 80% chance of rain, also the cafe will not be open.
Consequently we will be reverting to our usual meeting place at the usual time.
We will have several alternative activities available for everyone to work on.

Many thanks to today's model, Wendy, who posed for us in an intensely colourful top and leggings with a "dreamcatcher" theme.
It's interesting to think about what to do when presented with the challenge of making a picture of someone sitting in front of you. What to include or exclude? What stands out? What can I do with the materials I've got? What's going to make an interesting picture.
Many of us prefer to sketch in monotone and the contrast and tones are difficult to impart into the picture.
To those of us working in colour capturing the folds and flow of the material, with the bold colours and transitions against the black background was a big challenge to our artists.
Here are some answers to those questions, but only for today.
