It’s the last weekend of the Trail 2026! And it is going to be a fantastic one!! Weather? What weather?!

Not only do you have an absolute feast for your eyes with a wealth of artistic and creative talent on display throughout Arundel as you follow the Trail, but you have also got the Arundel Festival of The Arts in full swing!

There is something for everyone. Brochures for both can be found at various venues about town.

I really don’t think there is anywhere else I would rather be this weekend!

Next up on the introductions list is the maker of the creations is Darryl Pautz has a true passion for crafting and welding distinctive décor pieces for both the garden and the home. His work is rooted in creativity, skill, and a strong appreciation for materials that deserve a second life.
Darryl often works with repurposed metals, transforming overlooked or discarded objects into striking sculptures, practical features, and one of a kind decorative items. Each piece reflects his ability to see potential where others see scrap, blending craftsmanship with imagination to produce items that are full of character, texture, and individuality.
Whether it’s a bold garden feature or a quirky accent for the home, Darryl’s creations carry the charm of reclaimed materials and the artistry of a maker who loves what he does.

A warm welcome to .quinnell another new artist to the studio.

Sylvia Quinnell graduated in Fine Art and, with an inquiring mind, continues to explore new and creative ways to develop her practice.

Recently, she has been investigating ways to create a range of unique and original botanical prints on handmade Japanese, Khadi and vintage papers, some featuring original handwritten text.

Taking influence from the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi living with rustic simplicity in harmony with nature and appreciating the beauty that comes with the natural cycle of growth and decay her work celebrates the imperfect, the transient and the authentic.

Sylvia creates a range of inks from foraged oak galls, walnuts and rusty iron, which are used to stain the papers. Foliage is collected from her garden, the surrounding countryside and responsibly sourced seaweed from the nearby shoreline. The collected plant material is pressed and dried in an old book press before being printed using oil-based French etching inks and a traditional printing press.

The final compositions are created by cutting and tearing papers and assembling them using Japanese Nori rice paste, a traditional collage technique. Through this process, Sylvia develops richly layered works that evoke a strong sense of time and place.

These ongoing investigations have enabled her to create a distinctive new series of works on paper, rooted in both landscape and memory.

Sylvia works from her garden studio at the foot of the South Downs, close to the River Arun in West Sussex—an environment that continually inspires the imagery and materials found within her work.

A new face at the studio is she studied art at college before heading off for a gap year that turned into 20 years of travelling, working and living abroad. Throughout, her interest in art continued and, upon returning to the UK with a family, she returned to it.

She works with wire and metal and enjoys how something so rigid and industrial can be turned into a natural form, giving it character and a sense of movement. She is particularly inspired by birds and their freedom to go where they like. It is a challenge to capture their characteristics and feeling of movement and every sculpture is different as the birds emerge from the metal in their own way.

She also paints bright, abstract paintings inspired by the sea.

Again an artist who needs no introduction locally is

Karen Boxall creates beautifully crafted stained glass pieces that celebrate the interplay of light, colour and texture. As daylight changes throughout the day, so too does the character of each piece, bringing it to life in a constantly changing display. Karen specialises in painted stained glass, where delicate brushwork and kiln-fired glass paints add intricate detail and depth. This traditional technique has been used for centuries, allowing the artist to create fine lines, shading and expressive imagery that simply can't be achieved with coloured glass alone.

Let the countdown commence.

We will be all running around like headless chickens for the next few days preparing for the which starts on Saturday 22nd August at 12 noon. Unlike many trails this one continues for 10 consecutive days.

We will start with an introduction to a familiar face here at Cat and Kiwi Studio!



There is a quiet elegance to Teresa Clement's screen prints that invites you to slow down and look a little longer.

Working with the screen-printing process, Teresa builds her images layer by layer, carefully balancing colour, shape, and composition. The result is artwork with remarkable depth and clarity, where each printed layer contributes to the finished piece.

Her prints celebrate the beauty found in everyday subjects, transforming familiar scenes into beautifully observed works of art. The crisp edges and carefully considered colour palettes are a reminder that printmaking is both an art and a craft, requiring patience, precision, and a meticulous eye for detail.

Unlike a digital reproduction, every screen print is created through a hands-on process. Each layer of colour is printed separately, making the finished artwork a testament to the artist's skill and planning.

Teresa's work is a wonderful example of how traditional printmaking techniques continue to produce contemporary, timeless art that is both collectable and beautifully crafted.
