Private Eye via The Secret DJ... another one of the very very few avenues of possibilities for bands that don't come from wealth to maybe get somewhere. We really liked our BBC stages, especially on the precinct.

Private Eye once again the only outlet speaking on the topics we cover here, especially ironic considering our industry itself says nothing. In Secret DJ Book II we published how nepotism and the rising use of famous names over new talent is rapidly destroying the arts.

Wakefield Civic Society is working on a Wakefield in 50 objects project - a nice bit of positivity when the city really needs it!

They had loads of nominations but they're now asking for some additional votes to help narrow it down. Take a look, only takes a couple of minutes and yes, we are on there (number 80!) alongside such luminaries as Wakefield Pie Shop and the 110 bus.

Fifteen years ago today lots of excited people paid £12 to come to the first Long Division Festival. There'd never been anything quite like it in Wakefield before. We took over the awful local nightclub and the Cathedral, squeezed bands into tiny pubs and just had such a good time. Big names (to us) like The Wedding Present, Los Campesinos!, Darwin Deez, Emmy The Great and more rubbed shoulders with ace local bands. And a whole bunch of people suddenly realised Wakefield was quite cool. We just wanted to build off the back of a tiny zine and some great gigs in a sub 100 cap venue. It didn't seem like much but we had no idea how good we had it.

Fifteen years ago today the first Long Division Festival kicked off with its Friday Night Warm Up Event.

One Day, After School opened, followed by Bambinos, a third band we can't remember (sorry, please tell us who it was!) and headliners Shrag. We all got too giddy and were up to the early hours, with no comprehension of how hard a Long Division Saturday would hit.

How nice to find Long Division Festival in the Index of John Robb's new book "Punk Rock Ruined My Life". John's currently on tour promoting the book with lots of different special guests. The nearest to Wakefield is Farsley at The Old Woollen !
