Our Story
Dance Republic 2 CIC is a community interest company set up in July 2012 as a delivery vehicle for high quality dance activity, primarily focused on Cornwall. Our fundamental approach to delivery and development is expressed in practical terms though our DR2 Associates. These are individual specialists in dance who have an established track record in making, producing, performing or teaching/leading dance. DR2 focusses on strengthening the presence of high quality creative dance in Cornwall's schools, creating and delivering specialist dance projects and site specific event. DR2 develops special relationships with dance companies such as C-Scape, Ballet Lorent, James Wilton Dance, Protein Dance, Joss Arnott, Rosemary Lee and Simon Birch amongst many others. We support and develop small scale touring performance in Cornwall, bringing back extraordinary work from companies like New Art Club, Southpaw Dance, Ockhams Razor and many more. The DR2 Associates are our first call for the delivery of DR2 creative product. We do this because we wish to provide appropriate and inspiring employment opportunities for dance specialists in a cultural environment, which is a significant challenge for dance artists. Over the last decade, DR2’s founders have worked with a range of professional artists from different disciplines, many of whom have made a more-than-significant contribution to dance events and programmes, particularly landscape or site based work. It is our wish to nurture and re-kindle some of these relationships by involving visual artists, film makers and musicians directly in the creative thinking and planning for DR2 projects and programmes.
