For anyone at a loose end this weekend, I can highly recommend a trip to Chelsea Town Hall to see the Chelsea Art Society’s 77th Annual Summer Exhibition. Our brilliant teacher, Robin Rothero, is exhibiting there this year and it’s wonderful to see his work ‘Halfway Home’ hanging among so many talented artists. This week the afternoon class at ColourWheel Muswell Hill worked on watercolour flamingos, beginning with a few loose sketches before moving into colour. The students explored washes and a mix of brush marks and added texture the the backgrounds by flicking paint with a toothbrush. They also sprinkled salt crystals onto the wet paint to experiment with soft, speckled effects. Such a bright, summery session. Lovely work, everyone x

This week, the morning class at ColourWheel Muswell Hill explored flamingos in watercolour. We began with some loose sketches to map out the form before moving into glorious colour. Students experimented with washes, layering and different brush marks and some even added a playful touch by flicking paint with a toothbrush to create lively background textures. Such a lovely, colourful and summery session, well done all x

A big thank you to our life model Alessio, who brought such calm focus to yesterday’s Life Drawing Evening at ColourWheel Muswell Hill. We spent the session working with pencil and charcoal, with soft music and a glass of wine adding to the relaxed atmosphere. Our brilliant teacher, Robin Rothero, guided everyone through the studies with gentle, expert tuition. This afternoon at ColourWheel Muswell Hill we looked at creating pet portraits, working on both white and toned brown paper. Soft chalk pastels blended beautifully giving movement and energy to the cats and dogs and then watercolour pencils were used to add little details that brought each animal to life.

A lovely morning session at ColourWheel Muswell Hill exploring pet portraits on white and toned brown paper.
Soft chalk pastels gave our cats and dogs beautiful movement, while watercolour pencils added those refined little details that bring each portrait to life. Wonderful work from everyone!
