Special announcement!! This September, Scottish Dance Theatre comes back to Ullapool.

'Out beyond ideas of wrong doing and right doing there is a field. I will meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about' – Rumi

Scottish Dance Theatre presents Ray, Meytal Blanaru’s mesmerising creation venturing on a quest for a deep, collective, shared physical experience.

Witness up-close the dancers’ journeys as they build intangible bridges between bodies, sweeping you far beyond the intellect’s words, into a space where we can potentially meet, in a different way.

'Creates a bond between audience and performers stronger than I have felt for a long time' – Dancing Times

'It’s an ephemeral hour that grows from nothing, glows and evaporates. A lovely bunch of people; a lovely moment in time' – The Guardian

Tuesday 16th June at the Macphail: our next screening with National Theatre Live is The Pl***oy of the Western World by John Millington Synge, directed by CaitrĂona McLaughlin.

Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton) joins Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) and Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls) in John Millington Synge’s riveting play of youth and self-discovery.

Pegeen Flaherty’s life is turned upside down when a young man walks into her pub claiming that he’s killed his father. Instead of being shunned, the killer becomes a local hero and begins to win hearts, that is until a second man unexpectedly arrives on the scene…

Filmed live on stage at the National Theatre, CaitrĂona McLaughlin directs this darkly funny tale full to the brim with secrets.

Stevenson Trust Scottish Election Study Roadshow
The Stevenson Scottish Election Study Roadshow brings leading political scientists Prof Ailsa Henderson (University of Edinburgh) and Prof Christopher Carman (University of Glasgow) to communities across Scotland for a series of public lectures drawing on cutting-edge evidence from the Scottish Election Study, the largest dedicated survey of voter attitudes and behaviour in Scotland. Together they will unpack how Scots engaged with the election — from the issues that drove vote choice and how campaigns shaped opinion, to what the results reveal about Scotland's constitutional future.
Whether you follow Scottish politics closely or are simply curious about the forces shaping Scotland, this is your chance to hear the data speak.
This event is in person only.

🧵 'The most electrifying theatre imaginable' (ayoungertheatre.com)

It's back, one of Scotland’s most loved pieces of theatre. Dogstar Theatre Company presents THE TAILOR OF INVERNESS (Krawiec z Invernessu) in Ullapool on Saturday 5th September.

Matthew Zajac’s stunning show about his Polish-Ukrainian father has entranced over 40,000 people, playing in a huge variety of venues from prestigious theatres in cities which include New York, Adelaide, Glasgow, Kyiv, London, Malmo and Berlin, to tiny village halls.

This is a rare chance to see this unforgettable and moving story of displacement and survival in war-torn Europe, a powerful allegory for all victims of war.

Written & performed by Matthew Zajac
Jonny Hardie/Gavin Marwick on violin
Directed by Ben Harrison
Designed by Ali Maclaurin
Musical direction by Jonny Hardie & Gavin Marwick

Winner of a Scotsman Fringe First, the Stage Best Solo Performer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe and the 2009 Best Actor Award from the Scottish Critics.
