☕️ Never been to a Starling Café? Our next event is Thursday 12th November at the Macphail, with Louise Davies on the theme of 'Chance and choice.'

The Starling Café at the Macphail Centre is a relaxed place for ideas, reflection and conversation. We are open to everyone but places are limited, so please book in advance.

Where has chance landed you? Where will choice take you? The climate crisis is experienced very differently across the world. Communities who have contributed least to the crisis are frequently those facing its most severe consequences. In this conversation, Louise Davies will explore connections between Fair Trade and climate justice, and what they reveal about our responsibilities to one another in an increasingly interconnected world.

This session is run in partnership with Ullapool Fairtrade Group to mark Ullapool's 20th year as a Fair Trade Village!

'Killing Eve star kills it' [Metro]: bookings are now open for our next screening with National Theatre Live on 19th November, The Misanthrope by Martin Crimp.

Award-winner Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) plays the title role in this razor-sharp reimagining of Molière’s classic dark comedy.

Telling the truth isn’t always that simple. Alice, a brilliant novelist, despises the carefully constructed lies of modern society. But the more she challenges those around her, the fiercer the backlash becomes. Soon, she must confront the price of speaking her truth in a world that would rather silence her.

Filmed live on stage at the National Theatre, Indhu Rubasingham directs Martin Crimp’s (Cyrano de Bergerac) highly anticipated play.

Magic, a witch, a forest and sweeties: Scottish Opera is back in Ullapool on 3rd November, with a special chorus from our own Ullapool Primary students!

There is something truly special about the opera arriving in town. This Season, Scottish Opera brings one of the most enchanting tales in the repertoire, and a family favourite, to 34 locations across Scotland.

Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel is a story that speaks to all of us: two children, lost and hungry in a darkening forest, summoning every scrap of courage and wit to outsmart a very wicked witch indeed.

This beautifully crafted five-singer production, directed by Lucy Bradley and accompanied by an intimate piano arrangement, strips the opera back to its storytelling heart. An exciting cast including many current and previous Emerging Artists and a children’s chorus from Ullapool Primary bring this fairy tale to life.

Whether you are a lifelong opera lover or coming along for the very first time, prepare to be enchanted.

We are thrilled that this show, created and performed by Jenny Qaqundah and Myshkin Warbler, is coming to the Macphail on Friday 13th November.

Balancing urgency and reflection, humour and wonder, Held on the High Wire merges
Jenny's raw, vulnerable memoir with Myshkin's haunting Folk/Jazz music and films.

It explores sudden disability, q***r family, resilience, love and transformation with rare
honesty and exceptional artistry.

Featuring Hoops on drums and Anne Wood on violin.

Held on the High Wire is a candid, spellbinding multimedia performance that tells an exceptional story: disaster, survival, withdrawal, disability and most of all... love.
