Ridgewood Jive Nights Just £8 for an informal evening of freestyle Leroc
with a mix of latest tracks and classic favourites. From 6:30 to 9:30 pm on the first Sunday of every month.

Ridgewood Jive Nights are run by George and Ann and their friends. They are just a get-together of people who like Modern Jive and other partner styles. There are no formal lessons but requests for new music are always welcome.

Unfortunately, there have been some problems with hirers damaging the new automatic door by pushing on it rather than leaving the mechanism to do its thing. I don't believe any of our guests have done this but I need to make everyone aware just in case.

The attached is the letter we have received from the hall committee but to get to the point, it is important that nobody tries to open or close the door by pushing it. Only use the keypad outside (or ring the doorbell near it) and only use the button on the wall inside if leaving.

Sorry to be a pain be we don't want to be charged £180 for a 'recalibration' due to trying to speed it up.

We've had a call just checking that we are on as normal tonight and YES we are :-)

Some of you know that Ann and I had a bug earlier in the week so couldn't get to Stone Cross on Thursday but some early nights have fixed that and we've both been back to normal for the last couple of days so we're looking forward to seeing everyone shortly.

Remember we open at 6:30 now.

Thanks to all who came along and kept us busy at our February dance, please note that from now on we will be running half an hour earlier, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. to give us enough time to clear the hall within the licensing period.

We've been asked if there is a theme for Sunday so since it is November 5th and we all enjoy a little extra sparkle in our lives, the them is "Sparkling Sunday". Add a little extra glitter or wear something sparkly if you feel inclined. We will provide sparklers for everyone and the weather looks good to step outside to brighten the evening.

We have had our arms twisted to restart our Sunday evening freestyle jive nights so we will give it a go for six months. The hall has been refurbished and still has an excellent dance floor along with an improved kitchen and other facilities.

We will follow the usual pattern of the first Sunday in every month, starting with a firework opening ceremony on November 5th.

The hall hire charges have increased so we will have to ask for £7 per person but that's not bad considering we held the £5 price from 2011 until covid shut us down.

If the numbers hold up, we will keep it going so make sure to tell your friends and get them to "like" this page to get regular updates.

Hi everyone,

As most of you know I am sure, HotShots has been back at Uckfield Civic Centre for a few weeks now and we have had several of our Ridgewood regulars asking if we could restart our Sunday nights.

Since the hall has been refurbished, the hire costs have increased as has our public liability insurance so we would probably need to increase the charge though we'll keep it to a minimum. We run this for fun, not profit. However, to keep the atmosphere we all love and at least break even, we need around 20 people every night.

If enough people say they would be interested in restarting, we will give it a go and see how the response keeps up.

I'm sure some of you will also want to add new, more recent tracks to our playlist, there have been many danceable releases in the last 18 months so if you would like us to give it a go, please "like" this post and reply with the track and artist if you have suggestions.

It is with regret that we have to announce that we will not be resuming our jive nights at Ridgewood. We have now been given the requirements for re-opening that the hall has to apply to meet the government guidelines. This means writing a formal risk assessment explaining our plans regarding social distancing, use of masks, implementation of a one-way system in and out of the hall and the regime for sanitising all points in the building that may be touched.

Clearly for our style of partner dancing, these requirements cannot be met. We feel that we the present trend of a slight rise in infections, it is unlikely these conditions will be relaxed this year and consequently we have had to terminate our regular booking.

The last 9 years of running these nights have been marvellous, something we never expected to do and we are very grateful to all those who have supported us over the period, thank you. We hope you have had as much fun as we did.

This is just a reminder although I doubt anyone would come now, we are CLOSED until further notice. The Covid outbreak will shut everything down but after that we may need to stay closed due to the planned hall refurbishment. We will announce any re-opening through this page.
