We're pleased to announce audition dates for Whisky Galore - the first production of our brand new 2026-2027 season.

Audition dates: Thursday 9th July and Tuesday 14th July
Time: 7.30pm
Venue: The Green Room at Tynemouth Priory Theatre
Performance dates: 21st - 26th September 2026
Directed by: Hayley Moy

Based on the much-loved classic comedy, Whisky Galore takes us to a remote Scottish island where a shipwreck leaves an unexpected cargo of whisky washed ashore. With wartime rationing in full force, the islanders see an opportunity too good to miss - much to the frustration of those trying to uphold the law.

Packed with colourful characters, humour, community spirit and a healthy measure of mischief, this promises to be a fantastic way to kick off the new season.

While the stage lights may have dimmed for the summer, there's plenty happening behind the scenes at Tynemouth Priory Theatre - and we'd love a few more people to be part of it.

You don't need to be an actor to be part of what happens here.

Every production relies on a brilliant team of people behind the scenes - building sets, sourcing props, helping backstage, operating lights and sound, welcoming audiences, selling programmes, making tea and solving a hundred little problems before anyone even notices they exist.

Whether you can spare a few hours now and then or you'd like to get more involved, we'd love to hear from you.

No experience is necessary - just enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to muck in.

If you've ever wondered what goes on behind the curtain, now might be the perfect time to find out.

Drop us a message and come and say hello.

That’s a wrap on our 2025–2026 season – and what a brilliant year it’s been at Tynemouth Priory Theatre.

From the tension and intrigue of The Edge of Darkness and The Mirror Crack’d, to giant-sized fun in Jack and the Beanstalk, the laughter and heart of We Love You, Arthur and the warmth, wit and yellow van of The Lady in the Van – it’s certainly been a season to remember.

We’ve laughed, gasped, picketed, painted scenery, shifted furniture, learned lines in panic at 2am and somehow pulled together another incredible year of theatre thanks to the dedication of our members, volunteers, cast and crew.

A huge thank you to every single person who supported us this season – whether you bought a ticket, shared a post, volunteered backstage, sold programmes, made tea, moved props or sat in the audience and applauded at the end. Our theatre only works because people continue to show up for it, and we never take that support for granted.

Here’s a little look back at the season just gone. We’d love to know – which production was your favourite?

And don’t wander too far… audition announcements for next season will be coming very soon.

And just like that, the curtain has fallen for the final time on The Lady in the Van.

What a week it’s been.

Packed houses, wonderful feedback, standing ovations, a fantastic NODA review and so many lovely comments from audiences who laughed, reflected and completely embraced Alan Bennett’s beautifully awkward, funny and touching story.

This production has been a real labour of love from so many people. Huge congratulations to our director, Vicki Lockey, whose vision, hard work and attention to detail guided this production from the very first rehearsal right through to last night’s final curtain. From the iconic yellow van to the smallest moments on stage, so much care has gone into bringing this play to life.

To our cast, crew, backstage team, set builders, wardrobe, props, lighting, sound, front of house volunteers and everyone who helped make play week happen – thank you.

And finally, thank you to our audiences. Your support means everything to our theatre.

That’s the end of another Tynemouth Priory Theatre season… but not for long. We’ll be sharing more soon about next season’s productions and upcoming auditions, and we can’t wait to do it all again.

For now though, we might all just need a sit down in a yellow van.

After a sold out Friday night, glowing feedback all week and a wonderful NODA review, we’ve somehow reached the final performance of The Lady in the Van.

It’s been such a special week for everyone involved in this production. Full houses, huge laughs, lovely audience reactions and one very memorable lady in a van taking over Tynemouth Priory Theatre.

And judging by this photo of Keefe Browning as Underwood, we’re all a little stunned that it’s nearly over already.

If you haven’t joined us yet, tonight is your final chance to catch this funny, moving and beautifully British Alan Bennett classic before the curtain comes down.
