Thinking about auditioning for Dick Whittington but want to get a feel for the show first?

Our read-through takes place on Sunday 6th September at 2pm in the Green Room.

It’s a chance to hear the script, meet Fraire and get an idea of how this very visual, prop-filled panto is going to work before auditions the following week.

There are roles including Dick, Alice Fitzwarren, King or Queen Rat, Fairy Bow Bells, Sarah the Cook, Idle Jack, Alderman Fitzwarren, Dick’s Cat and Sultan or Sultana Vinegar, plus Junior and Adult Chorus.

Those interested in either chorus are welcome at the read-through too.

Read-through - Sunday 6th September, 2pm
Auditions - Sunday 13th September, 1pm

Rehearsals are well under way for Whisky Galore.

We popped into the theatre recently to see how things are taking shape, and there’s already plenty happening on stage as Hayley Moy and the cast start bringing the Pallas Players - and the residents of Great and Little Todday - to life.

This production asks a lot of its cast, with multiple characters, quick changes, props, movement and plenty of carefully timed chaos, so there’s a lot going on behind the scenes long before opening night.

Here’s a little glimpse from rehearsals.

Whisky Galore runs from 21st - 26th September 2026 at Tynemouth Priory Theatre.

Tickets are available here:

There’s a lot more to life at Tynemouth Priory Theatre than appearing on stage.

Our members get involved in all sorts of ways across the season - acting and directing, of course, but also costumes, props, scenery, lighting, sound, stage management, prompting, front of house and plenty more besides.

You don’t need years of theatre experience to become part of TPT. Sometimes it starts with simply being interested about what goes on behind the scenes.

If you’ve ever fancied finding out more, our monthly coffee mornings are a relaxed way to come in, meet some of our members and get a feel for theatre life.

Our next one is on Saturday 5th September at 10am in the Green Room - come in through the back door for a cuppa and a chat.

Who could you be in this year’s panto?

Dick Whittington is heading to TPT, and there are plenty of parts up for grabs.

Could you be our hero Dick? The villainous King or Queen Rat? Fairy Bow Bells? Alice Fitzwarren? The wonderfully outrageous Sarah the Cook? Or perhaps Dick’s slightly sarcastic Cat?

There’s also Alderman Fitzwarren, Idle Jack, Sultan or Sultana Vinegar, plus Junior and Adult Chorus.

If you’re thinking of getting involved, come along to the read-through on Sunday 6th September at 2pm to hear how the script runs and find out more.

Auditions will then take place on Sunday 13th September at 1pm.

So, what exactly is Whisky Galore?

If you know the story, you might be expecting Scottish islanders, a shipwreck and a rather large quantity of whisky.

You would be right - but there’s another layer to this particular stage version.

The play is set in 1955 and is being performed by The Pallas Players, an all-female English touring theatre company who enthusiastically take on all the roles, props, moving scenery and assorted sound effects themselves.

Within that play-within-a-play, they tell the story of the Scottish islands of Great and Little Todday in 1943, where wartime whisky supplies have dried up and a ship carrying 50,000 cases of whisky is wrecked just offshore.

What follows is fast-moving, chaotic and full of eccentric characters, quick changes and plenty for the cast to juggle.

Whisky Galore opens our new season from 21st - 26th September 2026, directed by Hayley Moy.

Well, Whisky Galore has officially arrived in Tynemouth.

If you’re passing the post box on Percy Park Road, keep an eye out for its rather fabulous new topper, crocheted by TPT members Ann Leake and Christine Coaster to celebrate our first production of the new season.

Complete with waves, seagulls, tiny bottles, a ship and its very own Whisky Galore sign, there’s an impressive amount of detail packed into it.

Thank you to Ann and Christine for creating it - we absolutely love it.

And if it leaves you wondering why there’s quite so much whisky involved, Whisky Galore comes to Tynemouth Priory Theatre from 21st - 26th September.
