Welcome, Mitchell! 👋

Truro Cathedral is delighted to welcome Mitchell Farquharson as the cathedral’s organ scholar for the 2026/27 academic year.

Originally from Hertfordshire, Mitchell brings prior experience in cathedral music, organ performance and music education. Although Cornwall is new territory for him, cathedral music has been at the heart of his life and career for many years.

In 2018, Mitchell served as organ scholar at Chichester Cathedral. Following a successful year, he enrolled as a full-time student at King's College London, where he held an organ scholarship while studying for his degree. After graduating, Mitchell worked as a graduate assistant at Wells Cathedral School. Before joining Truro Cathedral this year, he spent three years teaching at a secondary school in Surrey.

As the organ scholar in Truro for the year, Mitchell will support the cathedral's busy programme of worship and music, working closely with the choir, probationers and music department.

Huge congratulations to our 2025-26 organ scholar, Alfie Beston, on achieving the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists (FRCO) and winning every prize available in the examination.

Director of music James Anderson-Besant said: "We're extremely proud of Alfie. Winning the FRCO and all the available prizes is a fantastic achievement and a testament to both his exceptional talent and hard work."

👏 Join us in congratulating Alfie on this remarkable achievement and wishing him every success as he begins his next chapter at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.

Back in July, we said farewell to all our choir leavers who move on to pastures new - what a musical bunch they are!
