CRD was founded in 1965 by Graham Pauncefort to import and distribute specialised Continental and American catalogues. CRD continues to record interesting and unjustly neglected works, seek out outstanding young artists, and record standard classics where it feels a new approach can be justified.

Spotlighting a secret hidden in the Rothschild archives 🗝️✨

The final single release ahead of 's upcoming album, 'The Chopin Connection Vol. I', features a rare version of Chopin's 'Mazurka in A Minor, Op. 67, No. 4' 📜🎹

Discovered in the Rothschild family’s private Livre d’Or ("Golden Book")—a prized album of manuscript miniatures contributed by illustrious guests of the salon, including Mendelssohn, Bellini, Cherubini, and Meyerbeer—this manuscript offers a extraordinary window into Chopin’s inner circle – the connections spanning out from his pupil Charlotte de Rothschild 🏛️

Inscribed by Chopin in Paris on 28 November 1847, this version exhibits fascinating departures from the familiar posthumous edition published by Julian Fontana in 1855. With distinct musical transitions, alternate pauses, unique dynamic instructions, and original pedalling, these minute dissimilarities offer an invaluable masterclass in Chopin’s composition and performance practice. 🎼

On the upcoming album, Inbar presents both versions side-by-side, allowing listeners to trace the master’s creative process firsthand. 🎶

Art is always a palimpsest, layers of influences and inspirations.

Classical music is just this. But sometimes these layers get obscured, buried under the more celebrated (and often male) voices.

So what of those voices that have been marginalised and overlooked over time? What if we were to place the works of a famed teacher side-by-side with the forgotten female pupil?

This is what our two-volume project with Inbar Rothschild 'The Chopin Connection' seeks to do with Chopin and two talented members of the Rothschild family: Charlotte and Mathilde.

Vol. I is currently releasing on all streaming platforms with video material also available on the 'Chopin Connections' playlist on YouTube (link in bio).
