A reflective Colour and Light youth art session today - the young people looked through their portfolios of previous work to think about everything made so far and if there was anything to return to.

We talked about presentation, framing and exhibition-making: how way artworks are presented can affect their meaning and build narratives e.g. cabinets of curiosities, folklore museum displays, table top informal samples and priliminary sketches etc.

Amongst other things, the young people made images of creatures in flight, diaramas of beachy coves and brainstormed backstories for fantastical beings. A lovely morning, well done young artists  🦅🐲🏞

Join us for an exhibition of works by the young people who have attended the youth programme at SILT: Sustainable Image Lab CiC. We’re delighted to partner with The Old Town Hall Trowbridge for this exhibition.

Colour & Light is a year-long, Arts Council-funded eco-art programme provided free for 11–18 year olds based at SILT studio, Trowbridge. The sessions are held on Saturday mornings, during which young artists take part in sustainable art sessions exploring mixed media, drawing, plant-based inks and dyes, mark making, eco-photography, printing and textiles. The participants work on their projects in a professional artist studio environment, exploring and expanding their brilliant ideas amidst discussions of art making in contemporary contexts.

There will be a private view for the participants of Colour & Light and their families plus friends of SILT on Monday 15th June, 5pm – 7pm, at The Old Town Hall, Trowbridge. The show will then run Tuesday 16th June – Saturday 20th June 11am.

A great morning in the studio with Colour and Light young artists 🌞 They are all working on their own projects individually or collaboratively, today their processes included drawing, charcoal ink making, painting and cyano printing.

Our Colour and Light Youth people were back from the Easter break making brilliant art in the Studio this weekend. We’ve got the exhibition coming up so enjoyed talking through some ideas with everyone - hope this give you a sneak peek of the great work coming up.

Day 2 of Eco Analogue Photo weekend at SILT! - Today we made contact prints: sun prints outside and contact sheets in the darkroom from films developed yesterday. We made print developer from nettles and everyone selected their negatives to print from with a choice of nettle or coffee developer. Here is some of the brilliant work they made 🎞️

Day 1 of Eco Analogue Photo weekend at SILT - today we were shooting and developing film, mixing caffenol, foraging for print developers, making anthoype emulsions, coating papers and preping the darkroom for printing🚨
