A little look into how this piece is coming together.
We actually started working on this idea back in November 2024.
From choosing the canvas, working out the ink colours, looking for the right gold paint and brushes, to finally receiving the first finished piece and testing how long it really takes to make one.
All these little things took us almost six months.
And of course, there were things that didn't work, things we had to change, and quite a lot of shipping and communication going back and forth.
We were very lucky with the people we chose to work with. Taolong Liu They have been responsible, patient and very willing to communicate with us whenever we had a problem.
They even helped us look for a shipping company that was safe and reliable, but also reasonably priced. That made a big difference for us, as it meant we could stay in the UK and focus on the design and testing.
So although we are working from the UK, they have really become part of our little team across the sea.
Now, towards the end of 2026, we are going through a very similar process again.
This time, there are new things for us to figure out — the painted design, the fabric, the colour and texture of the fabric, the embroidery tool, and how the gold thread will actually look and behave on it.
It may take another four or five months.
Maybe even longer. We will see.
But after going through the first process, we have learned that these little steps are actually part of the work. The testing, the mistakes, changing things, trying again... all of it.
We don't want to rush this.
What we hope to create is a different kind of way to practise stillness, bringing some elements of Eastern Buddhist philosophy and practice into something that can be experienced through the hands.
Something slow.
Something quiet.
And hopefully, in the middle of a rather noisy world, something that gives people a little space to simply be still.
There is still a long way to go with this one.
But we are looking forward to seeing where it takes us.
