Debbie MacPherson Atelier is the creation of designer/maker Debbie MacPherson, a graduate of the prestigious Cordwainers College, London. All items are designed and handcrafted in her workshop in Totnes, South Devon using the highest quality Italian leather and substantial saddlery fittings. Here’s a personal project I’ve been working on…..
A set of leather seat pads for our mustard Kartell Masters dining chairs.
I used a caramel tan aniline leather with a 19mm high density foam interior and a non-slip fabric underside.

A recent bespoke order of the Great Eastern bag in caramel tan aniline leather.
Usually a shoulder bag, this one was made into a cross-body version by shortening the front handles and adding some discrete’D’ rings to the underside of the flap so that a longer strap can easily be added without compromising the original design.
Finished off with a gorgeous turquoise plush velvet tropical print lining.

Who says a laptop bag has to look like a laptop bag?
For this commission the ‘Bella Tote’ was converted to a laptop bag by adding a large padded section to the lining to safely accommodate her MacBook.
Instead of the usual shoulder straps the customer decided to have shorter front handles with a longer crossbody strap.
She wanted a simplistic look to the exterior of the bag so chose to have all of the bag made in Rustic Brown aniline leather but decided to go for a beautiful patterned lining to add a pop of colour to the interior.

One of this mornings jobs was to repair a vintage Prada bag.
The top handle was very worn and needed to be completely remade, additionally the lining also needed to be re-stitched.
We decided to make the handle slightly wider and I think it worked out well.
See below to see how the handle was replaced….

1) I removed the damaged top handle and used it to make a pattern for the new one.

2) As the handle was quite substantial I needed to replicate that so a stiff interfacing was required.

3) The best matching black leather was selected although it was a bit thick so I manually thinned it down to make it more manageable.

4) The interfacing was attached and the edges folded.

5) I decided to add a leather stiffener to make the handle more substantial.

6) Using my trusty bulldog clips to hold everything in place for stitching.

7) Voila- the finished result - pleased to report that the customer was delighted!

New in…. The ‘Bella Hobo Bag’
This versatile bag is made from a beautifully tactile aniline leather we call ‘vintage lace’.
It can be carried by the handles or can be worn crossbody using the detachable strap. The sides can be cinched in for a compact look or opened by releasing the side toggles for more volume.
It has a magnetic top flap closure.
As always this bag can be made in a range of colours, so just get in touch with any queries.

I pride myself on providing a truly bespoke service adapting my designs to suit the customers individual needs.
On this recent order the customer requested an interior leather strap that she could clip her keys onto for easy location.
She also decided to have an extra special lining made from South African Sweshwe fabric I sourced on my recent travels.
