Festival friend Dr Julius Green is giving a special talk at The Mary Wallace Theatre, Twickenham (South West London on Monday 21 September, exploring Agatha Christie’s remarkable contribution to the world of theatre.

Drawing on his authoritative book, Agatha Christie: A Life in Theatre, Julius will raise the curtain on the Queen of Crime’s towering contribution to popular theatre, revealing the stories, successes and secrets behind her work for the stage.

Not long now until the Torbay Paint Out series returns with The Great Torre Abbey Paint Out! Taking place this weekend, 5 and 6 September, the two-day event forms the culminating celebration of National Gallery’s Art on Your Doorstep trail, bringing creativity directly into our public spaces.

Saturday 5 September
Follow the Plein Air Artist Trail as ten professional artists capture the landscape live on location. Connecting Torre Abbey and The Pavilion, the route invites you to take a thoughtful walk between two heritage icons and discover diverse creative techniques unfold in real time.

Sunday 6 September
The focus shifts to Torre Abbey’s upper meadow for a Mass Paint Out open to everyone, regardless of prior experience. To spark your inspiration, we are providing still life setups and free art packs to help families and first-time painters dive straight into the creative process.

The Competition
Sunday also marks Torbay’s first Plein Air Art Competition. Creatives of all ages can test their skills by capturing the Abbey grounds within a strict time limit, with finished pieces reviewed by a professional panel for a chance to win the main cash prize and dedicated themed awards.

There are some fantastic theatrical treats taking place throughout this year’s Festival, including TOADS production of The Mirror Crack’d at the Little Theatre in Torquay.

The inhabitants of St Mary Mead are thrown into a frenzy when a glamorous film star buys the Manor House, but a vicious murder changes the mood rapidly. Jane Marple, despite being confined to a chair following an accident, unravels the web of lies and tragedy, ably assisted by Chief Inspector Craddock.
