📚✨ Our creative writing workshops, The Mystery of the Missing Letters, are well underway this week at Torre Abbey We have already seen lots of engaged, smiling children full of ideas, imagination and enthusiasm. 😊✍️

🔍🌿 Led by Olivia and Sarah from The Writers' Block, our young writers have tiptoed through mysterious gardens, sneaked into a grand ballroom, and followed a trail of curious clues as they created their own stories inspired by the world of mystery. 🕵️‍♀️📖

This project forms part of our charitable commitment to work with local young people to improve literacy, encourage creativity, and foster a lifelong love of reading and writing.

Funded by the The National Lottery through Arts Council England and delivered under the patronage of UNESCO in the UK, these workshops are helping to inspire the next generation of storytellers.

📸✨ We look forward to sharing more highlights.

Join us for this completely unique event being held inside the historic Assembly Rooms at Torquay Town Hall, where Agatha Christie served as a nurse in the Voluntary Aid Detachment for the British Red Cross during the First World War.

The event features talks and audio visual presentations, followed by a Tea Dance with live music from the 25-piece South Devon Big Band. Period-appropriate outfits very welcome.

The charity event is supporting the British Red Cross and Agatha Christie Festival.

Tickets are just £15.

🏊‍♀️🌊 Just under a month to go until the Agatha Christie Sea Swim Weekend!

If you're thinking of joining us, now is the perfect time to sign up. Created to celebrate Agatha Christie’s love of sea swimming, this unique event also raises vital funds for Rowcroft Hospice and the Agatha Christie Festival.

For the first time ever, both of our iconic swim routes will be available across the same weekend. Choose one spectacular swim, or take on the ultimate challenge and complete both!

📅 Saturday 11 July | 3:00pm–5:00pm
Broadsands → Goodrington South Sands
(High tide 3:54pm)

📅 Sunday 12 July | 3:00pm–5:00pm
Beacon Cove → Meadfoot Beach
(High tide 5:04pm)

🎶 And the fun doesn't stop when you leave the water! Join us at Cantina Goodrington on Saturday evening for a relaxed social gathering, with a DJ spinning the very best summer tunes.

This isn't a race, it's a sightseeing swim, designed to be enjoyed at your own pace. If you can comfortably swim a mile in open water, we'd love to welcome you.

We are looking for some young people from Torbay to help in a research project that will culminate in a short film that focusses on the life of Agatha Christie during World War I. The project is being supported by GWR and will have an emphasis on the role and importance of trains during the Great War. This project would particularly be suitable for secondary aged students.

The research will take place at Torquay Museum and involve finding photographs and other useful documents that can be used in the short film. This will be coordinated by the Collections and Operations Manager at the museum and be both a useful and interesting look through some of the museum’s archives.
