Little Theatre - Torquay

Little Theatre - Torquay Home to TOADS Theatre Company. With a variety of shows all year round, we promise a great night! TOADS formed in 1944 as part of Torbay Operatic Society.

We took up residence in the Little Theatre in 1988. In 2002 TOADS performed their 100th production at the Little Theatre. It's important to us to make drama accessible to everyone. Right from the very start, we thought of an appreciation of drama and the cultural shaping of leisure activity as vital aspects of our project. Over time, we've gained many friends and partners who help us achieve this

objective. We're a friendly team who look forward to interest across the generations and cultures. So whatever your age or background, do drop in and meet us.

Don’t forget - auditions at 2:30pm today!

Audition for 'Haunting Julia' by Alan Ayckbourn. Playing dates 12-17th October.

This is an unusual Ayckbourn, part of a trilogy of ghost stories, the other two being 'Life
and Beth' and 'Snake in the Grass'. Similar to 'Snake in the Grass', this requires three actors,
but they are all male this time.
Julia Lukin was a child protegé, a disturbed musical genius who took her own life while at university. Her father, Joe, has spent much of his time, and most of his money in opening 'The
Julia Lukin Centre' as a tribute to his daughter's legacy. It is in the room where she took her own life that the play is set. Can Ken make contact with Julia... will Joe find the answers to his questions.... and was it really su***de?
A wordy play with a cataclysmic final scene.

Characters.
Joe Lukin, devoted, grieving father. Northern accent. Sixties.

Andy. Julia's last boyfriend, now married with two children. Thirties.

Ken. An unassuming, cheerful man who knew Julia well. Amateur psychic. Forties.

The offstage voice of Julia has already been cast.

Intrigued? then please come along, and I'll explain why I've been trying to stage this fascinating play at The Little Theatre for years.
Ages can be fudged, but basically we need three blokes who can work well together; four if you include me.....
John Miles, Director.

SPRING AND PORT WINE
A Play by Bill Naughton
Directed by Paul Davenport

The cast and crew are putting the finishing touches to our last play of the current season, as we join the Crompton family in this cult classic, funny and captivating family drama.

Rafe Crompton may be a stern, strict and religious father looking to assert his dominance over his family, but with four children under his roof paying their way, two generations are about to come into conflict. When one of his daughters refuses to eat her herring at teatime with the rest of her family, their lives will never be the same again…

Join us at the Little Theatre, Torquay, every night next week. Opening on Monday 15 June at 7.30pm every night until Saturday 20 June with a matinee at 2.30pm and an evening performance at 7.30pm.

You can book online through the link in the comments below or call the box office on 01803 299330 (the box office is open 10am to 12 noon, Tuesday to Friday).

15th-20th JUNE - Spring and Port Wine

In the working-class Crompton household, the father, Rafe attempts to rule with an iron fist, while his wife, Daisy is a more gentle and understanding presence. Rafe’s methods of dealing with his children continually rub them the wrong way, particularly getting under the skin of his rebellious daughter, Hilda. As Rafe and Hilda lock horns, their conflict becomes a battle of wills that affects the whole family.

Tickets can be booked online now 🎭 Or alternatively from our Box Office (open Tues-Fri 10am-12pm)

The second social evening this month, due to take place on Friday 29th May, will have a slightly different feel to say the least! One of our members, Stewart Molyneux, is fundraising for his huge challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in September!

You may recognise Stewart from some of our previous productions, such as Blithe Spirit, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Taking Steps🎭

Stewart says, “I am really grateful to Jon Manley and the committee for letting me take over the social evening for my event. It will be a massive challenge for me, but I’m undertaking this feat to raise funds for Rowcroft Hospice, all in memory of my Mum, Julie, who passed away in 2016, and my sister Claire, who passed away in March 2025 aged just 47. I know they will be with me every step of the way, pushing me up the mountain - or at least I hope so, as I’ll need all the help I can get!”

He continued, “I have tried to think of different ways to raise the money, which is about £6,000 in total and so far I have about £2,500, so still a way to go. I decided that I would wax my legs for this event, so people will be able to pay £10, and then rip a strip of wax off my leg and watch me suffer! We’ll be set up in the foyer area outside the auditorium doors by the bar, so people will be able to hear my screams whilst they enjoy a drink and a catch up with friends! I have waxed my legs before for charity so thought I’d try it again, I’m sure there are lots of people who would like to cause me a little bit of pain, even if it costs them a donation to the cause! I would also really like to thank my fellow TOADS member, Alison Lee, for providing the bed, wax, strips and her expertise as part of the event. I hope there’ll be lots of people who want to come along and bring as many friends as you can too. We’ll be ready to go from about 7pm, so see you there!"

If you want to donate to Stewart’s Just Giving page, you can do so here https://www.justgiving.com/page/stewart-molyneux-4

We hope to see lots of you there on Friday!

There’s not long now before our final performance of “Caught in the net” which has received glowing reviews all week, and how deserved they were! 🎭

We also want to recognise the heart of the Little Theatre team - our amazing volunteers. From front of house to backstage, set building to costumes, lighting to refreshments, without your time, passion and commitment, this week would not have been possible ❤️

Can you believe there’s only one more production left of the 2025/26 season?

Please join us in sharing the love for the wonderful cast of “Caught in the net” 🧡
