Over the past three years, it has been wonderful to watch Niamh grow in confidence and develop within her role. Her practice is brilliant, and she continues to build her knowledge, skills and understanding with a real passion for providing the best possible support 🥰🥰
One thing that really stands out about Niamh is that she is always ready and willing to learn more. She is never afraid to ask questions, develop her skills or take on new learning opportunities, and this dedication to growing within her role is something we truly admire👏🏻🤩🌟

🎉 Happy 9-Year Work Anniversary, Tess! 🎉
Over the past 9 years, Tess has been on quite the journey with ALC, including two maternity leaves and the arrival of her two beautiful children, while continuing to remain such an important and valued part of our ALC family🤩🥰❤️
Tess has one of the biggest hearts and cares so deeply about the individuals she supports. Her warmth, kindness and genuine care shine through in everything she does, and she has an incredible ability to build exceptional relationships based on trust🤝😍
The connections Tess has built over the years are a true reflection of her patience, compassion and dedication. She understands that meaningful relationships take time and consistency, and the trust she builds with individuals allows them to feel safe, understood and valued🥹💪

💬💙 AAC Awareness Month | Every Voice Deserves to Be Heard!💙💬

At Autism Life Centres, we believe that communication is so much more than spoken words. Every individual deserves to have their voice heard, their choices respected and their thoughts, feelings and personalities understood🥰

✨ But what is AAC?

AAC stands for ‘Augmentative and Alternative Communication’. It includes all the different ways people communicate when speech alone isn't enough or isn't their preferred way of communicating. This might include communication apps and devices, picture symbols, communication boards, Makaton, gestures, signs, facial expressions and much more! 📱🖼️🤲

💙 How can we support AAC users?

🗣️ Model, model, model! Use their communication aid alongside your own speech, showing them how words and symbols can be used naturally throughout the day.

⏳ Give time. Allow individuals time to process information, find the words or symbols they want and respond without rushing or finishing for them.

👀 Make communication meaningful. Use AAC during everyday activities, conversations, favourite games, music, outings and mealtimes, not just when asking questions.

🙌 Presume competence. Always assume that individuals have something valuable to communicate, even when they cannot express it in the way we expect.

❤️ Respond to every attempt.
Communication might look different for everyone. A gesture, a symbol, a sign, a sound or a word can all be meaningful ways to connect.

📱 Keep communication accessible. Make sure communication aids are available, charged and within reach, giving individuals opportunities to communicate throughout their day.

At ALC, we know that AAC isn't about encouraging someone to speak; it's about giving them opportunities to communicate, make choices, build relationships and have greater control over their own lives 💙

The more we model, encourage and embrace different ways of communicating, the more opportunities we create for meaningful connection, independence and inclusion🌈

From making sure everything is safe and secure to creating a warm, welcoming and homely environment, they’ve put so much hard work and care into every little detail.

It’s not just about getting a building ready – it’s about creating a place where our individuals can feel safe, comfortable and at home. 🏡

🎉Today, we’re celebrating an incredible 10 years of service at Autism Life Centres for the one and only Alice! 🤩🤩
Alice is known for her witty sense of humour, her alter ego “Affect Alice” 😂 and the fact that her ideas are alwaysflowing! 💡 There’s never a shortage of creativity, enthusiasm or new plans when Alice is around, and her passion for ALC shines through in everything she does ☺️👌👏🏻
Alice absolutely loves a good staff celebration 🎉🥂 and is always finding ways to bring people together, celebrate the team and make sure achievements don’t go unnoticed 🤩 But beyond the celebrations, she is also incredibly hands-on and always ready to step in and support wherever she is needed 🥰🥰
THANK YOU, Alice, for 10 amazing years of dedication, ideas, laughs, celebrations and hard work. Your energy, creativity and commitment have made such a difference over the years, and we are incredibly lucky to have you as part of the ALC family.
