Working on a commission for my dear niece Kathy who is going to have a special birthday this weekend near Thurso. She wanted a Dunnet Head Atlantic Puffin and it's nearly finished. The angle of head and body are so tricky but I just love these birds - so quirky. Clumsy on land but creatures of beauty when underwater. Currently under threat because the population of their main food - sandeels - is getting less and less.

What a wonderful, warm Easter Monday afternoon at Castle Semple Loch shore by the Visitor Centre. The glorious sunshine brought many people to the popular Loch, as well as all the resident feathered population. From peaceful Mute Swans quietly preening, to raucous Herring Gulls and strutting Greylag Geese , the whole scene was full of vibrant life

The Mute Swan, I noticed had spur-like 'heel' projections. Apparently these are called a 'Calcaneal k**b' to enable walking on rough ground easier. Morven had exactly the right food- seeds- to feed the swans. Visitors to Castle Semple Loch are asked not to give them bread

Very successful first day of the Barony Babes' exhibition on 1st April in Studio 44, Boyd Street, Largs. Twelve local artists in a wide variety of styles have their watercolour, pastel, oil and mixed media works of art including prints, cards, mugs, tea towels, coasters and tote bags. Vanessa Armour also has her unique natural hand-dyed knitwear.

Spring is arriving, heralded by snowdrops in our garden. Although I can walk further during my recovery from my left knee replacement, I continue to be fascinated with painting the street we have lived in for 42 years in Kilbarchan in Low and High Barholm. It helps that many houses have dates on them. What have you got coming up in your garden? And does where you live interest you?
