Just a few days until we start our first set of rehearsals for NT Connections 2019. Thank you to everyone who came along earlier in the month - I have sent emails out to you all.

There are lots of parts (that could be doubled up but I would love to involve as many people as possible) and if you can't make the dates next week (Thursday to Saturday - 3rd to the 5th) but still want to be involved then get in touch. Our next set of intensive days are in Feb during the holiday/in-service dates.

Excited to start on our play 'Variations' and delighted that we will be performing it at Lyth Arts Centre on the 5th of March before taking it to Eden Court. It is a great play.

If you want to just go to the festival for the workshops, shows and general awesomeness - then get in touch as well.

So, my final show up here on the North Coast. I've had so many wonderful adventures along my way and I would love to see some of the group come along on Friday - 7th from 3pm to 5pm - at the Ross Institute in Halkirk for one last venture. More details below but get in touch if you need any more info.

So .. I'm in a position to announce a shout out for the National Theatre Connections Festival 2019. This will be my last NT show up here on the North Coast and I would be delighted to have as many of you join me on one last adventure. This is for anyone up here on the North Coast and is NOT through Thurso High School but I would be delighted for you to be involved. Details are below and if you have any questions then please get in touch - please, please like and share. Thank you.

We are looking for actors from across the North Coast to take part in National Theatre Connections festival in April 2019. The festival will bring together Youth Theatres from across the Highlands to perform new plays between the 9th and 12th of April at Eden Court.

I will be having an introduction/audition session on 07 Dec 2018 at the Ross Institute, Halkirk.

The play we have chosen is ‘Variations’ by Katie Hims. If you would like to read it before the introduction/audition session please get in contact.

This year I will be running the rehearsals over two intensive periods. You MUST be able to commit to ALL the dates. The intensive days will run 10am to 4pm. All venues will be in Caithness.

03 to 05 January 2019 – Thurs to Sat - Venue to be confirmed.
18 to 20 Feb 2019 – Monday to Wed - Venue to be confirmed.

There will be a performance in Caithness at the beginning of March - I hope to have this date to you asap.

There will also be two intensive days before the festival at Eden Court.

17th of March 2019 – Venue to be confirmed.
7th of April 2019 – Venue to be confirmed.

The cost of the festival will be £140 – this will include ALL sessions/rehearsals leading up to the festival, three nights of accommodation in Inverness, access to the festival itself (including workshops, shows, parties), meals during the festival (apart from lunch) and transport to and from the festival.

A deposit of £50 will be required at the start of rehearsals. It is my hope that the group can fund-raise to bring the cost down.

FULL BURSARIES are available for those who qualify.

ACTORS NEEDED

Still struggling to drive past Thurso High School and not pull into the car park. I hope you are all well. It was lovely to see some of you pictured at the Rotary Speech Competition and well done to you all.

The Nat 5 Class are looking for a few more actors to 'flesh' out their Ness Islands Halloween Show and I wanted to ask if any of you guys would be interested. You would have to find your way down to EC on the Saturday morning and back home Sunday night (we can pay for a parent to take you down) but we would organsie overnight accommodation (Youth Hostel), food and general merriment.

If you fancy it please let me know ASAP as we need to book.There will be chaperones about but you will need to organise yourself during the Sunday morning/afternoon before the show.

Our theme this year is a haunted 1980's Games Arcade where things like Donkey Kong, Splatterhouse, House of the Dead and Pacman come to life - it should be fun. Get in contact for more details.

This will NOT be a Thurso High School trip but through Eden Court.

A difficult post to write but my time with Thurso High School Drama Club has come to an end. My wonderful partner in crime is moving onto pastures new and I feel it is the right time for me to try a different tact. I will still be working in Caithness and have a number of exciting projects coming up but a weekly club at the High School is just not possible.

Thank you to EVERYONE who has been through the drama club. I have the most wonderful memories and I will miss climbing those stairs up to Maxi's room - honest. When I think back to all the shows and projects we have done I am filled with pride in doing something a little different - from Greek Theatre (remember the duvet Alan Mowat) to the ridiculous Show for Dogs. We've done musicals, Shakespeare, movies, NT Connections, devised pieces, in fact far too many to name here.

I have seen so many wonderful young people go through the drama club and I hope that the wonderfully talented group we have at the moment can be part of our new plans.

So, that's it. A handful of photos and a wee tear in my eye. Thank you for your support, friendship, laughs, tears and ... well everything. Who knows what the future will bring but I know this the right decision for me at the moment. David

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and that you are all excited about a new term. As many of you know the wonderful Miss Jenny 'Maxi' Maxwell is moving on and will be leaving the school soon.

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to her and I hope that others will join me. Without her the drama club at Thurso High would simply not have happened and lasted nearly as long as it has. She has been such a wonderful person to have alongside me. She has taken care of you all and helped you when you are down and laughed with you on some of the best adventures I have had. I will miss her so much.

Thank you for everything you have done Jenny. I will miss you so much. Good luck with this next chapter of your life and all the best from me and all the young people you have helped in the years and years (and years) of the drama club.
