At Magpie Makes we make creative learning fun for kids. Our projects help them shine brighter. We specialise in art, craft and sewing for children age 5 and up.

We run children's creative parties, local after-school art & sewing clubs, and some fab holiday workshops to get the kids creating in the school holidays.

Someone once told us that in business it’s always good to try new ideas, so we are always throwing around new projects - some stick, some don’t. But fashion design is something we have had on the studio desk for a while… and then we met Tamara and we just had to work out a way to get the idea out of the laptop and bring it to life!
You might recognize her from series 2 of The Sewing Bee? She was a finalist and knows a thing or two about sewing, garment construction, up cycling and fashion. She’s also warm and fun so a great fit for the Magpie team 😊

It seems like a really good memory, the day we dreamed of opening some creative clubs for kids. The excitement was real, could we really do it?!
Well we did and we’re so proud of what has grown from those early days. The clubs became more than just after school, we stretched into holiday camps and the joy of birthday party celebrations. Sometimes it’s a bumpy ride running your own business but it’s never boring.
Thank you for following along and sharing your children with us, we never take that responsibility lightly we really do put them at the centre of everything.

We’ve been running our creative holiday camp sessions since lockdown ended so that’s since summer 2021 and in those 5 years we’ve learned so much about how to structure the sessions.
We are proud to have excellent ratios, an experienced team and a range of projects utilizing different materials and techniques…we like to think they are a lovely way to spend the day for kids who enjoy making things 💛

We have been asked by lots of our families to extend our camp days and it’s a tricky one. We have a great awareness that focusing on our art projects until 2pm for many children is enough, they’re ready to scoot off home by that time. But we also understand the very real juggle that the summer holidays bring and we want to be able to help.
So if it’s useful and/or you have a super keen artist who can create all day then we have an optional extra 1.5hours you can add to your booking. It’s called ‘the extra flourish’ - it might be collaborative drawing, diving deeper into techniques and materials, perhaps creating a little gallery of everyone’s artwork - we’ll use this summer to guide us and see what suits the children best.

A full party project is underway at Magpie Makes HQ. We’ve been drilling down the nitty gritty of what our party team think are our strengths and what we can improve.
We’ve got 3 or 4 new parties on the planning table and we’re going to offer parties in your home (this is something we get asked about often)

Today was a day full of community, chatting non-stop and making new friends. It was the chilliest fair in years so we kept warm by keeping very busy. If you came to see us today and join in with our graffiti art or our badge making - thank you!

Teaching a sewing club might just be THE ideal part time, local, term-time only role. You have to be patient, kind, creative and willing to pass on your passion. If this is you, we’d love to meet you, our ever popular sewing classes are growing!

Camps are always a highlight for us and we know how many of you love joining in and taking home some really special keepsakes. We have also done some work looking at how we could make what we do more useful for our families, so just as a trial at first our summer camps will have the option of booking a longer day.
