About ‘Starlight Theatre Arts’

Hi, my name is Natalie and I run Starlight Theatre Arts in Thame. Here is a little bit about me and why I have chosen to start my company.

My experience and qualifications:

I have completed a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts and a BA Honors Degree in Acting at Trinity School of Theatre and Performance in Wales. After graduating, I working in Touring Theatre for many years as a professional actor, singer and dancer as well as in other acting roles. I soon realised that, however much I loved my job, I had a strong desire to work with young people and use my skills to make a difference to their lives. After volunteering in a Special Needs School, supporting their teaching of drama, I experienced first-hand how rewarding working with young people can be. This inspired me to complete a PGCE in Primary Teaching.

During the past 6 years of my teaching career I have felt privileged to work with many children in a variety of settings, supporting their social, emotional development as well as their academic progress. Throughout my teaching, I kept my love of theatre alive by writing and directing plays for children, running theatre workshops in the school holidays and a weekly drama club. I have now decided to combine my love of working with children and my passion for the theatre arts by starting up a Theatre School of my own, here in my community of Thame.

My vision for ‘Starlight’

I have been a keen performer since a very young age and first performed in a pantomime aged 7. However, growing up as one of four siblings, my parents found it tricky to financially support my interest in the performing arts due to the often very expensive prices of drama, dance and singing classes. The training I received at stage school was fantastic, but I remember the guilt of knowing how hard it was to pay for. I am a firm believer in the performing arts being available for all children to enjoy, not just the select few. My vision for ‘Starlight’is to offer performing arts classes, which are accessible to children from all walks of life and which aim to inspire a love of performance from a very young age.

I aim to create a safe and happy environment, where children can take risks, express themselves, grow in confidence and realise their full potential as young performers. Having gone through many, many auditions over the years, I can also support the older children in my ‘Theatre Group’ class with preparing audition pieces if they are interested in perusing acting professionally. The children in the ‘Young Performers’ class and ‘Theatre Group’ will be working towards performances at the end of the term, which you will be invited to come and enjoy.
