'Cuppa'

Now brought to life with glaze. I wonder what she's discussing. I've had a couple of suggestions to make her a companion to talk to, and it's tempting, but I like leaving some things to the imagination so that multiple stories can arise from one piece. Who is she talking to? What is the setting? Is it a friendly chat or maybe confrontational? Perhaps she is dominating the conversation to the point that the other feels unseen. Or perhaps she is lonely - in company but feeling alone.
'Cuppa' will be on show amongst many more of my pieces for Bucks Art Weeks. These will form part of an art trail with at St Mary's church in Aylesbury, beginning this Saturday (13th June).

I've not yet decided on a title for this one, possibly 'The Village' but it's not sitting quite right yet. This drawing is largely a distant memory of feelings gone by. But occasionally, even now, certain life-changing aspects of being a woman come back to haunt and taunt.

'Loss'

An exploration of an often invisible loss; the loss of parts of ourselves. As we emerge into new stages of life there often has to be a shedding or washing away of old ways of being. As my mum often says 'life is change'. If something isn't changing it's not living. Still, can be a bit sad though to lose the parts you wanted to keep.
Originally a pastel drawing, developed into ceramic sculpture.

Hopefully this will result in my first bronze sculpture πŸ₯³ and I'm planning to go and visit the foundry too this year to see how it's all done. This is how I party - super excited!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

'Cuppa'
I'm currently working on a new collection which simply celebrates the ordinary and broad range of things people do.
I was particularly absorbed in this piece, maybe because a cuppa with a friend is one of the highlights of my week. While under the spell of sculpting I can lose track of time and everything else going on, which is lovely, but I quickly forget how the figure even came to be so it was nice to look back at the photo taken near the start of the process. She really was a lump of mud before.
