Dance Vibrations Kent

Dance Vibrations Kent Ballroom and Latin American dance lessons and classes for adults.

15/08/2022

After a very quiet July and August with so many of my dancers away on holiday, I am looking forward to September. Not only will I have the existing classes back, but I will be starting a brand new Beginners class at Teynham at 8pm.

I already have some new people signed up, and would be more than happy to welcome anyone else who fancies giving Ballroom and Latin a try. It is a lot of fun, good exercise and a great way to meet new people and make new friends. I will be introducing a monthly practice class/social on a Sunday afternoon later in September, so that my pupils can get to know each other on a social level. This also gives the new dancers a chance to see what the more advanced classes are doing, which will hopefully inspire them to learn more.

We are also coming up to Strictly season again - none of the celebrities who have signed up so far are familiar to me, but no doubt we will get to know them once the programme starts.

I am planning to start a new Argentine Tango class on a Thursday evening at Norton Village Hall. This would be a 1 hour class, once a week and we would only dance Arg Tango - I have normal classes in Teynham covering the other Ballroom and Latin dances. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to learn this particular dance.

So enjoyed being back teaching after the Christmas break - and so pleased with the progress my dancers are making. I will be starting Waltz and Jive next Monday on the beginners class.

My wedding couple, Gwen and Barrie, come in for their last Waltz lesson next week in preparation for the big day. They are looking amazing!

Congratulations to Rose and Giovanni for a well deserved, if predictable, win. She really developed over the series and Giovanni is to be commended on his adaptation of his teaching abilities to communicate with a deaf partner. John and Johannes were worthy runners-up. They did an amazing job of the all-male partnership, John is a super talented young man.

It was a pity AJ had to stand down, the final needed that third couple, although I don't think they would have changed the final result.

A good series, there was some amazing dancing this year.

The Quarter Final of Strictly was a real mixed bag - stunning Arg Tango from Rhys. At last we are seeing what he is capable of - a well deserved place in the Semi Final.

Dan deserves a medal for what he achieved - he has no natural dance ability and no doubt his popularity as a BBC presenter has kept him in all this time. I personally liked his Tango, I thought he did well. It was sharp and dramatic, but had he staying in the competition, a better dancer would have had to leave, so it was time.

For me, AJ has not shaped up in the last couple of weeks, her Salsa was disappointing (the botched lift notwithstanding). John's Salsa was much better (ditto the botched lift).

Interesting to see who will go out on the Semi Final. My money is still on John, but I think Rose will probably win.

What a joy it was to get back into teaching group classes - I have missed it so much. And what a delight to meet such lovely people on both the Bronze and Beginners class - there were 2 couples missing from the Beginners, so I look forward to seeing them next Monday, when we will be adding to the Rhythm Foxtrot and Cha Cha Cha.

I am so looking forward to starting two new group classes tomorrow evening, 29 November, at Teynham Community Hall, a Bronze level class at 18h00 and Beginners class at 19h00.

I am dying to meet the couples (and 2 single ladies) who have signed up already.

At last, we saw John deliver what he is capable of - a performance equal to his Paso. Clever choreography - Johannes had him dancing the lead throughout - it was brilliant,

I was disappointed with AJ's Couples Choice - fantastic piece of music, but it somehow didn't come up to expectations.

Dan did a really good job of his Rumba - so many of the male celebrities go out on this dance, and I was pleased to see Rhys' hugely improved upper body. For the first time he showed control and the stillness required for ballroom.

Quarter final next week - no obvious winner yet - my money is on John or Rose.

We are down to 7 in Strictly - and the scoring was definitely odd. While Dan has improved beyond recognition, he is not a natural dancer, while John is one of the top 3 in this year's line-up. I don't think the judges are giving him full credit for doing what no other celebrity has to do - dance both lead and follow. Being a dance instructor, I do this all the time, and really appreciate the difficulties involved. John finishes his lines suberbly - I really think the bar is raised every time he takes to the floor - he is amazing!

I must applaud AJ's waltz - it was really beautiful. The waltz has been particularly scarce in this year's show - week 1, week 4 and now week 9. As its a slow dance, every little detail shows, and AJ did it really well.

Rose continues to impress - she could win this.

I will be starting a NEW BEGINNERS CLASS on Monday 29 November at the Teynham Community Hall at 19.00h.

So looking forward to meeting the couples who have already signed up, and would love to have more aspiring dancers join us!

Last night was definitely Ladies Night with Rose, AJ and Tilly taking the top 3 places on the leader board.

Rose has become a real contender for this year's glitter ball. Her Tango scored the first 40 of the series - deservedly so - and Tilly's Cha Cha was the best of this series. The ladies are really shaping up after a bit of a slow start. AJ was always a contender, but Rose and Tilly are doing really well.

What was Aljaz thinking, giving Sara a Latin dance for her Couples Choice? They could have done anything and she is really strong in her Ballroom - her Foxtrot was top of the leader board. Huge mistake!

The costuming and makeup were amazing - I thought the judges outfits were outstanding, all 4 of them. Craig made a great Mad Hatter.

Week 6 and the competition is really hotting up.

Huge improvement this week - the dancers are really upping their game. Some surprises as well - I thought Dan's Viennese Waltz was really good, pity he was looking down some of the time, it made him look unsure of himself. Hope Nadia corrects that.

The Viennese Waltzes were both good - Rose gave an amazing performance, but her actual dancing was great - despite the fact that there are very few steps in VW, the amount of rotation and the speed of the dance make it difficult - she was accenting her "1" count beautifully.

I was disappointed in Rhys' American Smooth - all the judges mentioned he had too much movement in his upper body (which should be kept a still as possible in Ballroom) and then all scored him 8! Overscored in my opinion.

I loved John and Johannes, as always they delivered an amazing Charleston. The precision of their movements when dancing apart was excellent - it takes hours of practice. Lots of character!

Looking forward to Halloween week next Saturday.
