1990s โ€œMadchester Music Sceneโ€ Veteran Tom Hingley on the Telford Stage โ€“ 16 October 2026

Tom Hingley, English singer, songwriter, guitarist and author, best known as the frontman of legendary indie band Inspiral Carpets, performs live in Telford on 16 October 2026, supported by Midlands singer-songwriter Rory Black.

With Inspiral Carpets, Hingley achieved 15 UK Top 40 singles and toured internationally, becoming a key figure in the iconic hedonistic โ€œMadchesterโ€ scene centred around Manchesterโ€™s legendary Hacienda Club, opened by Tony Wilson and New Order.

Throughout his career, Hingley has collaborated with artists including Manchester band James and performed on stage in London with Ian Duryโ€™s band, The Blockheads. Lenny Kravitz famously praised his performance, saying, โ€œTom should be singing on Broadwayโ€ after seeing him on the 1991 TV series The Beat.

Hingley later embarked on a successful solo career, releasing albums including Keep Britain Untidy, Thames Valley Delta Blues and The Grand Mal. He also formed The Lovers and The Kar-Pets, published his memoir Carpet Burns, and taught Music Business Studies at UK universities.

His memoir offers an honest and colourful insight into the Madchester movement, including stories from his time with Inspiral Carpets, their relationship with roadie Noel Gallagher and their appearances on Top of the Pops.

Supporting Hingley is Rory Black, a Midlands-based singer-songwriter known for intimate, heartfelt songs about growing up, love and everything in between. Drawing inspiration from multiple decades and genres, Rory blends classic songwriting with a fresh and honest perspective.

A must-see night for fans of Inspiral Carpets, Madchester and classic British indie music.
