The next stage of this week's commission was to prepare the paper itself using the cyanotype chemicals. Once dry, I placed the photographic negative over the sheet, then exposed to sunlight (one of the rare glimpses we have had this week 🙄). It is amazing to watch the colour change before your eyes... try it!

It has been lovely to start work this week on a commission for a customer who wants a cyanotype print of a very specific view, to give as a gift for a loved one.

I took this photograph on the Quantock Hills, of a place special to her family (when the weather permitted). I also collected some grasses from the location to use in the work. Then I created the digital negative ready for the next stage of the process... watch this space. 😊🌿

I love the moment of transformation when the water touches the exposed print, and you finally get to see what the piece will look like.

I took this photograph of horses on the Quantock hills, and thought the contrast of light and dark would work well with the cyanotype process. I need to do this one again and leave more exposure time I think, as the sharpness isn’t quite there for me. Fun trying though. 🍃

Sometimes it's great to just experiment with different images, taken of different things, just to see how they come out. This is a personal favourite of Rosehips.

Here are just a few of the prints I have made, based on the Quantock landscape where I live. I love taking photos on my walks, so I decided to combine it with my other hobby of cyanotype printing.😊

I convert each image to a negative, then using a mixture of chemicals, magic, sunlight, determination and patience, I create these 'blue prints'. The last pic is my faithful friend who is always good and rarely blue. 😇
