Little Doorways

Little Doorways Make your very own magical doorway in upcoming courses, family fun days and events! My earliest memory of these little beings is the Flower Fairies. How magical.

Fairies have been a part of my whole life, there’s not a moment I don’t remember loving the idea of them. I love how changeable fairies can become in literature, art or my imagination. We had the pictures scattered around our walls. My love for Peter Pan and Brian Froud’s art for the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth also helped. Years ago someone posted on my Facebook wall pictures of little doors, I co

uldn’t believe what I was seeing. I started to make notes of how I could make these, but I put those notes aside. Since then there have been steps towards this little idea, but something still wasn’t clear in my mind. I decided to make a course at Kilve Court called Good Fairies/ Bad Fairies, “Creative Writing & Art.”
This year I was asked to run an introduction to my courses at Kilve’s Family Fun Day. I usually make fairy peg dolls on my fairy course but I tend to spend a lot of time with students making them. The dolls can become quite tricky and frustrating to make, especially if the students are very young. Seriously there’s been tears! I only had a one hour slot, so I had an idea. I asked my husband, ‘can you make little door shapes?’ He made me fifty! Thinking nothing of it, other than my excitement, I went along and the “Letting The Wee Folk In” was a success. During the course, I spoke to Beth Webb who said she knew someone who did Family Fun Days and she got me in contact. Later Beth messaged me asking why I didn’t become a children’s entertainer for this? But something then clicked. Lately I had been thinking about going back to work, when suddenly everything became clear. I was alright at making doors, but children were better. Children can see the magic more than anyone. That’s why Little Doorways is so unique. I see many people selling little doors, fantastic, love this so much, but why should I have all the fun? If I could go back in time I would want to make a hundred little doors for my fairies and friends. And if I could give advice to anyone thinking about making their own business, I would say listen to yourself, take notes, discuss them with your friends. Don’t shut them down like I did for years. You never know how a little idea can become something big.
