I’ve been quietly working on something new behind the scenes at Wren & Bramble…

KIT & CREATE 🎈

It’s an idea I’ve had for a while — taking some of the things I love making and turning them into really clear, gentle step-by-step guides so you can create them at home too.

Not a “make yours exactly like mine” kinda guide.
More: here’s a helping hand, now make it yours.

The first PDFs I’m working on are for Kinusaiga: the Japanese-inspired technique of creating pictures using pieces of fabric tucked into a design rather than sewn.

I particularly love the idea of using fabrics that already mean something to you: an old shirt, baby’s first outfit and precious clothes, a scarf, a piece of fabric connected to a person or a place. The guide gives you the structure, but the finished piece becomes completely yours.

The first design is based on Balcary Bay, Scotland, and I’m working on a collection inspired by special places around the UK.

These will eventually be available as downloadable PDFs through Etsy, so you can buy the guide, gather your own materials and make them whenever you fancy.

And apparently my brain has now decided Kit & Create should become much more than Kinusaiga… because I’ve also disappeared down a rather lovely rabbit hole involving sand, small worlds and some very simple, beautiful, creative play ideas. 👀

I’m not quite ready to show you all of that yet.

But I’d love to know… would you buy a creative PDF if it showed you exactly what you needed and walked you through it step by step in a really simple and friendly way?

And would you rather buy just the digital guide, or have the option of a small materials/starter kit too?

They’re going back to school. You’re allowed to come back to yourself. 🤎

The uniforms are labelled.
The shoes have been sorted.
The lunchboxes are ready.

And after weeks of days out, snack requests, late bedtimes, washing, refereeing, entertaining, packing, unpacking and hearing “what are we doing today?”…

Suddenly, it’s quiet.

So maybe the first thing on your list doesn’t need to be catching up on everything you didn’t manage over summer.

Maybe you message the friends you’ve spent six weeks saying, “we need to catch up properly” to meet at Wren & Bramble.

Get a coffee. Choose something to make. Sit around the table and finally hear all about each other’s summers without somebody needing a snack halfway through the story.

Paint. Create with clay. Start a mosaic. Bring your crochet. Make something wonderfully pointless.

Or spend more time chatting than creating. That’s allowed too. ☺️

You don’t need to book a whole group or organise anything special. Just choose the same session, turn up, grab a drink and find yourselves a spot together.

The children are back to school.

Maybe it’s your turn to have a playdate. 💕

Tag the person you’re overdue a coffee with.

I’m not sure I’ll ever stop feeling grateful that I got to turn a key in this door. 🔑

Not just because I got the chance to build Wren & Bramble, but because of what has happened inside these walls since.

People have walked through this door carrying all sorts of things.

Some have come because they’re lonely.
Some because life feels a bit too much.
Some because they’ve forgotten what they enjoy.
Some simply because they fancied making something and having a coffee.

And they don’t have to explain any of it when they arrive.

That’s important to me.

Creativity gives us another language. Sometimes what comes out is meaningful. Sometimes it’s messy, silly, colourful or seems completely pointless.

It doesn’t have to mean anything to matter.

I know how fortunate I am that something I carried around inside me eventually became a real place.

And I know there are so many people still carrying things quietly.

So if you’ve been watching Wren & Bramble from the other side of your screen, thinking “I’d love to go there, but…”

You don’t need a reason.
You don’t need to be creative.
And you definitely don’t need to tell me your story.

Just come as you are.

There’s a seat at the table for you. 🌱

A little Wren & Bramble milestone 🫶

This month, for the first time since opening, Wren & Bramble is going to break even.

And I am ridiculously happy about that.

Not because breaking even sounds particularly exciting on paper 😂 but because this little place is still so new. Every booking, every person who comes back, every recommendation and every person who walks through the door not quite knowing what they’re going to make has helped get it here.

But the summer holidays taught me something too.

Our Grown-Up & Me sessions were the ones you found time for.

And I completely understand why.

Sometimes it’s much easier to give ourselves permission to sit down and create when we’re doing it with our children.

So perhaps Grown-Up & Me can be the beginning.

Come for them.
Make alongside them.
Remember that you enjoy it too.

And one day, perhaps you’ll come back just for you.

Because I don’t want our children growing up watching us save every bit of time, care and curiosity for everybody else.

I want them to see us play too.

When was the last time you did something purely because you wanted to? 🌱

This week at Wren & Bramble ✨

Three very different sessions. Three very different ways to make something that, at the end, will feel like it’s truly yours.

✨ Grown-Up & Me | Light the Night Fireflies
We’re turning little glass bottles into magical glowing lights. Draw and decorate your bottle together using colourful glass pens, then add tiny micro lights and watch it completely transform when the lights go down. A lovely one to take home and switch on at bedtime.

🎨 The Hideaway | My Story Canvas
For our teenagers, there’s no example to copy and no “right” finished piece. Paint, draw, doodle, layer, collage and experiment to create a canvas filled with the things that mean something to you; hopes, memories, dreams, favourite places, people, music, colours or simply things you love. It can tell everyone your story or keep it completely private.

🧵 Adults | Kinusaiga
This week we’re trying the beautiful Japanese-inspired art of creating pictures with fabric. Choose your fabrics, build your design piece by piece and tuck them into the surface to create something wonderfully tactile and bonus - there is no sewing required at all! Perfect if you fancy trying something you’ve probably never done before.

And as always at Wren & Bramble, you don’t need to be artistic. 🌱

Come because you fancy making something.
Come because you’d like a couple of hours away from everything else.
Come because one of these made you think oooh, I’d like to try that.

There are currently spaces available across this week’s sessions, so if you’ve been meaning to come and see what Wren & Bramble is all about, this would be a lovely week to start. ☺️

Which would you choose? ✨ glowing fireflies, 🎨 story canvas or 🧵 kinusaiga?

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is not rush in. 👀🤎

When someone we care about is upset, everything in us can want to make it better.

We reach for the tissues.
We reassure.
We say “it’s okay”.
We look for the right words.

…Because sitting beside someone in their sadness can feel incredibly uncomfortable.

But sometimes they don’t need us to make the feeling disappear.

They need to know that the feeling is allowed to be there, and that we’re not going anywhere while it is.

This is something play therapy has taught me again and again.

Holding space isn’t doing nothing. It’s resisting the urge to take over someone else’s emotional experience because we find it difficult to witness.

And I think this matters far beyond the therapy room.

With our children.
Our partners.
Our friends.
And sometimes with ourselves too.

You don’t always need the perfect words.
Sometimes, “I’m here” is enough.

Are you someone who instinctively tries to fix things when somebody you love is upset?

I’m trying something completely new TODAY… 👀

This one took me hours. And I love every imperfect little bit of it. 🥹

My baby turns ONE soon, and I wanted to make him something.

Not something particularly useful. Not something expensive. Just something that came from me.

So I spent hours cutting and arranging tiny pieces of mosaics into a hot air balloon on a little trinket tray.

Some of the pieces aren’t quite straight.

The balloon isn’t perfectly symmetrical.

There are bits I could probably have done differently if I started again.

But I wouldn’t.

Because while I was making it, I was thinking about him.

About this first year. About how impossibly quickly it’s gone. About the tiny baby I brought home and the little person he’s becoming.

And somehow all those hours are in there too.

He’s turning ONE, so obviously he has absolutely no idea what a mosaic trinket tray is 😂 and I’m under no illusion that this will be the present that causes the most excitement on his birthday.

But one day I’ll be able to tell him:
I made this for your first birthday. I sat there for hours, placing every tiny piece, because I wanted you to have something made by your mum.

And perhaps that’s why handmade things don’t need to be perfect.

The imperfections are part of the evidence that a real person sat down and gave someone their time.

I think I’ll treasure this one just as much as he hopefully will one day. 💛

What’s something handmade you’ve kept because of who made it?

19/08/2026

Your brain doesn’t need another thing to be *good at*. It needs things it hasn’t done before. 🧠✨

I’m making a hot air balloon mosaic here… figuring out shapes, choosing colours, changing my mind, working out what fits where. And underneath all of that, my brain is learning.

That’s one of the things I love most about creativity.

You don’t need to arrive at Wren & Bramble knowing how to paint, mosaic, use clay, crochet or do anything else.

In fact, not knowing is kind of the point.

Try something you’ve never tried.
Pick up a material you’ve never used.
Make the wonky thing.
Change your mind halfway through.
Work it out as you go.

Because the value isn’t hanging on the wall at the end.

It’s in everything that happened while you were making it. 🌱

So I want to know…

⭐️ What’s the last thing you learnt purely because *you* wanted to? ⭐️

And if it’s been so long you genuinely can’t remember, maybe that’s your sign to come and try something new.
