It’s been an emotional week. I did the final clean at Mum’s, put the house on the market and sorted through the remaining boxes of her life. 3 relatives of friends have died along with Dolly and Tim Curry. It seems quite coincidental that this week I also finished this piece.

In many spiritual and cultural traditions dragonflies symbolise the afterlife, transformation and connections to loved ones who have passed away.

Sharon’s parrot is the first of a colourful duo, created on cement board so it can live outside. We used a combination of grout with a rich chocolate brown for the background and an epoxy translucent for the bird and the circle behind. I’m still getting used to the translucent grout. Mixing the two parts has to be precise so that it hardens and the clean up is totally different. We normally ‘dry’ grout, where clean up involves no water, but this product needs lots of water and I’m not keen on the sticky texture!
Finished with a copper trim around the edges it’s a beautiful, striking piece 😍👏👏👏

We had some great sessions last week, swapping mosaicing for making stained glass suncatchers. I’ve really enjoyed learning the process and taking on a new challenge and the guys did too! Busy, tiring (with two sessions in one day) but great fun 😊😊😊

Cheryl’s target with this piece was to improve her cutting and grinding skills so that the grout lines were uniform. She absolutely nailed it and her choice of glass for the whole project is spot on!!
A remarkable piece to be treasured by the recipient ❤️❤️❤️😁👏👏👏

A beautiful house number created by Sharon. Who wouldn’t want this piece at the front of their house?
Using wood outdoors is risky and not really advised but she is prepared for the possibly limited longevity to use this gorgeous chunk as a substrate!
We experimented with translucent grout and I have to say it’s not an experience I want on a regular basis. It’s sticky and gooey and doesn’t behave like normal grout at all. We attempted a bevelled edge around the subject but it just wasn’t having it!!! I do like the blending effect though and think it brings the tesserae together.
Despite our grout fight, it’s a really beautiful piece of work 👏👏👏
