Behold!

The joyous sound of running water and a flushing toilet.

We may have half a ceiling in the hallway, but this is progress. 🥰

We are quiet…

It turns out, fitting the bathroom was the easy bit, connecting to a mains sewage pipe right at the back of the house, not so much!

Much repair to be done…

🤣

Never listen when you’re told you can’t do it…

It was suggested we’d never get a bathroom in this space, it’s so satisfying when you prove, with good choices, you absolutely can.

We’re still building, painting and tiling, it’s always going to be a small room, but it will work perfectly for our two grown boys, and with plenty of space to manoeuvre.

Doors up on the new cupboard. Hiding the consumer unit was always going to be important in this room.

The original, tall utility cupboards have been relocated elsewhere for storage and tarted up with new cornice, skirting and a few coats of colour-matched paint. Silly to waste them…

A little bit of progress on the bathroom this week.

All the boring bits are now done, apart from taking out the hallway ceiling to fit the soil pipe, which I’m dreading as it’s lath and plaster.

We’re fitting the last bit of plasterboard to the ceiling and part of the upper wall in the morning and finishing the tiling.

A continuation of the wall panelling after that, along with a tiny bit of plastering.

Adding a bathroom where there is no bathroom is a really long process, especially when there’s so much tiling. I thought I’d done well finding inexpensive tiles for the biggest areas, but they’re a bit bowed and slightly different sizes and evidently an absolute pig to fit. Beware of false economies eh?

Suffice to say, I’m not that popular at the moment.

😊

PS: Not keeping the light!

We are finally sorting our little bathroom.

5 years in the making, I’m so very, very patient…

Sometimes I forget how awful this house was.

We split what was essentially an enormous front bedroom, which the boys shared at first, into what is now our bedroom with a space for a second bathroom to the side, (in 2021.)

We had also added the loft conversion at that point, which created a third bedroom for our eldest. The slightly smaller back room, originally ours, was reduced a little bit as we needed access to the loft, and became a much coveted double bed space for our youngest.

The last bit of a very, very messy journey. Lots has happened to scupper progress over the last few years, but finally, we’re tiling today.

Renovating is hard, especially when you haven’t got a big budget, but with time, patience and eBay, it’s miraculous.

🖤

Very excited with my ‘new’ tap… Another tiny step towards a much needed 2nd bathroom. Got to love
