We celebrated our second birthday at Art Swansea on Tuesday.
Cake and tea and art all in one place.

We've held nearly 100 free art sessions at Dyfatty Community Centre since we started in August 2024.

The sessions are aimed at adults of all abilities with the sole aim of removing barriers to creating art. Although the sessions are not art lessons advice and guidance is available on all art topics from materials and techniques to presenting as selling your work and everything in between.

We're at Dyfatty Community Centre every Tuesday evening (except the second Tuesday of the month) from 6-8pm. Come along, do some art, have a cuppa, and have a chat.

Every Tuesday (except the second Tuesday of the month) Art Swansea holds a free art session for adults from 6-8pm at Dyfatty Community Centre, Chapel Street, Swansea, SA1 1NB.

The sessions are put on to give people somewhere to enjoy creating their art at their own pace. Our aim is to remove the barriers many people face in having access to somewhere to be creative.

We have art materials for use during the session, or you can bring your own.

The free sessions are for adults of all abilities and are aimed at those people who want to explore their creativity, improve their art, or just meet other creatives.

While the sessions are not lessons, guidance is always available if you're interested in learning a particular technique, or improving an existing work and we're always happy to welcome new people.

Tea, coffee, squash, biscuits, and/or chats are also available but not mandatory.

As we're all about helping people improve their art, we're also anti-genAI. We don't use genAI for anything that we do, including our logos and posters. All are created from scratch - no canva, no templates, and definitely no chatGPT.

As it's the second Tuesday of the month, there's no Art Swansea session running this evening. We're there every Tuesday, except the second Tuesday of the month.

Sessions are free to attend and there are art supplies available to use, or you can bring your own.

Come along and create art at your own pace. Coffee, tea, squash, biscuits and chats are also all available, but not mandatory.

Open to all adults of any ability.

Here's a reminder that Art Swansea is fully committed to human made art.
We've always been against the use of genAI at any point in the creative process due to ethical and environmental concerns and that it undermines the artistic integrity of the final piece.
There are plenty of free resources that can be used for refrerence, from information on composition, colour schemes, and colour theory, to anatomy and poses, and everything in between.

I've made this post after someone accused us of using genAI to create the Art Swansea logo (rather than address the genAI in their post they opted to try and defame us instead). So, for the record: the logo was created, from scratch in Photoshop CS6 (yes, that is an old version) in 2024 prior to the launch of Art Swansea.

This is Simon Bening. He painted this in 1558. How do we know? Because unlike the self portrait in the previous post by "Unknown Artist" Simon Bening signed and dated the work very clearly.

I don't suggest taking up a fifth of your painting's real estate with your biography, but it's a good idea to include some legible biographical information on your work even if your signature is a squiggle or akin to a heiroglyph.

There are many unique ways that artists nowadays mark their paintings but the only way to really future proof your work is to clearly identify it as yours.

On the reverse of the piece writing your name, the date and even the materials can be very useful information for the future - even for yourself.

Always sign your work! You never know what will happen in the future. This self portrait was discovered in 1989 and although the person would have been known to their family, friends, and peers at the time they're now "Unknown Artist" even though we literally have their face.

Nowadays signing your work ensures that it can be attributed to you for things like copyright, but in 100 years time one of your artworks might turn up somewhere and the future peeps would want to know who created it.
